Job description

We are not looking for someone with years of professional technician experience. We are looking for someone dependable, patient, mechanically capable, and willing to learn. Training will be provided.

Position Summary

The Entry-Level PC Technician will assist customers who bring computers into our service department, help diagnose hardware and software problems, perform computer repairs and upgrades, build new systems, and communicate with customers throughout the repair process.

The technician will also help customers when they drop off and pick up their computers, call customers to explain quotations and obtain approval for repairs, and process customer payments when work is completed.

This position requires strong customer service skills, clear communication, steady hands, patience, critical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and assist them when they bring computers in for repair.
  • Ask clear questions and document the problems customers are experiencing.
  • Listen to the customer’s description of the issue without assuming that the customer’s diagnosis is correct.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting before moving into more complicated or time-consuming repairs.
  • Diagnose hardware, operating system, driver, and software-related problems.
  • Repair, upgrade, and maintain desktop and laptop computers.
  • Install and replace computer components.
  • Build custom desktop computers, workstations, and servers.
  • Install and configure Windows operating systems.
  • Install drivers, updates, and required software.
  • Replace laptop screens, batteries, keyboards, storage drives, memory, and other components.
  • Assist with laptop AC jack and charging-related repairs.
  • Upgrade laptops and desktop computers.
  • Test repaired systems to confirm that the original problem has been resolved.
  • Keep the workbench, tools, parts, and customer systems organized.
  • Create clear and accurate notes about diagnostic findings and completed work.
  • Prepare repair quotations and call customers to explain recommended work and obtain approval.
  • Contact customers when their systems or orders are ready.
  • Help customers when they pick up repaired systems or new computer orders.
  • Process customer payments and complete checkout procedures.
  • Explain technical information in a patient and understandable way.
  • Protect customer equipment and data while systems are in our possession.
  • Travel to customer locations for installations or service appointments after completing training and becoming comfortable working independently.
  • Assist with other technical and customer service duties as needed.

What You Will Learn

Vision Computers will provide hands-on training in areas including:

  • Troubleshooting Windows and software-related problems.
  • Replacing and upgrading computer components.
  • Repairing and upgrading laptops.
  • Replacing laptop screens.
  • Diagnosing and repairing laptop charging and AC jack issues.
  • Testing systems after repairs.
  • Documenting technical work clearly.
  • Communicating diagnostic findings and repair recommendations to customers.
  • Preparing systems for delivery and installation.
  • Performing computer installations at customer locations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patience when helping customers who may not be comfortable with technology.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Critical-thinking and basic problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Can explain technical information without making the customer feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed.
  • Can stay calm and patient when helping someone who is not technically experienced.

  • Ability to sit or work at a repair bench for extended periods when required.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work around desks or equipment.

  • Sufficient hand control and dexterity to work with small screws, cables, connectors, laptop components, and computer hardware.

Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position at our Norcross, Georgia location. The specific work schedule will be discussed during the interview process.
