What does an Entry Level Computer Vision Engineer do?

An Entry Level Computer Vision Engineer assists in developing computer systems that can interpret and process visual information from the world, such as images and videos. They typically work with machine learning algorithms, neural networks, and image processing techniques to solve problems like object detection, facial recognition, and image classification. Their work often involves data annotation, model training, testing, and optimizing algorithms under the guidance of senior engineers. Entry level engineers usually have a background in computer science or related fields and are familiar with programming languages such as Python and libraries like OpenCV and TensorFlow.

What is the difference between Entry Level Computer Vision Engineer vs Computer Vision Analyst?

AspectEntry Level Computer Vision EngineerComputer Vision Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in CS, Electrical Engineering, or related; knowledge of ML and CV frameworksBachelor's in CS, Data Science, or related; strong analytical skills
Work EnvironmentTech companies, R&D labs, startups; focus on developing algorithms and modelsData analysis teams, research firms; focus on interpreting CV data and insights
Employer & Industry UsageTech, automotive, robotics, healthcareMarket research, consulting, security, and surveillance

Entry Level Computer Vision Engineers focus on developing and implementing computer vision algorithms, often working in R&D or product teams. In contrast, Computer Vision Analysts primarily interpret and analyze CV data to generate insights. Both roles require a strong technical background, but their daily tasks and industry applications differ.

What types of projects do entry level computer vision engineers typically work on, and how much collaboration is involved?

Entry level computer vision engineers often work on tasks like annotating datasets, developing and testing algorithms for image or video analysis, and supporting the integration of computer vision models into existing applications. These projects usually require close collaboration with data scientists, senior engineers, and sometimes product managers to ensure models meet performance requirements. It's common to participate in code reviews and team meetings, fostering a supportive learning environment. As you gain experience, you'll likely take on more complex responsibilities and contribute to larger project components.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Computer Vision Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Computer Vision Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, mathematics, and image processing, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or C++, experience with deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), and knowledge of OpenCV are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork set top candidates apart. These skills and tools are essential for developing, optimizing, and implementing computer vision solutions in real-world applications.

Job description

About the Project:

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview:

TRP has a current vacancy for a CAD Technician who will be responsible for developing and maintaining accurate 3D models and 2D drawings for subway infrastructure projects using Revit and Civil 3D. The role focuses on translating engineering design and survey information into detailed digital models that support design development, documentation, and project delivery.

The successful candidate will produce models for both civil infrastructure (alignments, corridors, and site works) and station-related building components, ensuring all models and drawings comply with established BIM standards and project requirements.

This position involves creating model-based drawings and supporting quantity take-offs and data extraction from BIM models to assist project teams in design coordination and estimation processes.

The BIM Modeler will collaborate closely with engineers, survey teams, and project stakeholders to ensure that design information and survey data are accurately represented within the BIM environment. Maintaining organized digital files within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and following project BIM standards are key aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain 3D BIM models and 2D drawings for civil infrastructure and station components using Revit and Civil 3D.
  • Produce detailed drawings including alignments, station layouts, cross sections, profiles, and topographical representations based on engineering design and survey information.
  • Generate model-based quantities and data extraction from BIM models to support project estimation and reporting requirements.
  • Translate engineering designs, sketches, and survey information into accurate BIM models and documentation.
  • Maintain model and drawing revisions to ensure they reflect the latest design updates and survey data.
  • Import and manage project information within the BIM environment, including survey surfaces, alignment data, and other geospatial datasets where applicable.
  • Maintain an organized digital file structure within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) to ensure proper version control and document accessibility.
  • Ensure all BIM models and drawings follow the project BIM standards, naming conventions, and modeling protocols.
  • Perform basic quality checks to verify model accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers, survey teams, and other project stakeholders to support efficient model development and documentation workflow

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or a related field.
  • Up to 2 years of experience as a BIM Modeler, CAD Technician, or Drafter, preferably on infrastructure, transportation, or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit and Civil 3D for 3D modeling and drawing production.
  • Experience working within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for model and document management is preferred.
  • Ability to produce accurate models and drawings from engineering designs and survey information.
  • Understanding of model-based quantity extraction and BIM data management.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized digital project files.
  • Familiarity with survey data integration, GIS data, or point cloud processing is considered an asset.
  • Ability to follow established BIM standards and project workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Interest in digital delivery technologies and BIM workflows within infrastructure projects.

What TRP Can Offer You:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employer Matching Retirement Program
  • Life insurance
