Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute , residential , and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital provides high quality care to children, adolescents and their families using quality, evidence-based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a 106-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Position Description:
Reporting to the Director of Health Information Management (HIM), the HIM clerk is responsible for a full range of administrative duties and ensures overall efficiency and ease of the records management operation within the department.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Sorts patient clinical/medical information alphabetically, chronologically, and by unit; files information in clinical records per established guidelines.
  • Prepares information and copies reports for mailing, in accordance with release of information company policies and procedures.
  • Assembles and analyzes discharged patent records.
  • Preforms chart assembly and analysis to ensure 100% compliance; performs audits and compiles data for departmental reporting.
  • Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals; fosters effective communication with staff members, and champions dialogue in addressing concerns.
  • Serves as a role model for patients/residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.
  • Interprets facility and departmental policies and works cohesively with department in the attainment of organizational objectives.

    Qualifications
    Requirements:
    • Demonstrated entry level knowledge of medical terminology, acute/residental treatment, clinical science/ pathology, and psychiatric disorders.
    • Demonstrated advanced skill in the use of databases and spreadsheet applications, to prepare reports and analyze data.
    • Skill in reading medical terminology and analyzing data, in the preparation of files, and reports.
    • Previous experience working in hospital or equivalent setting, providing support and administrative assistance, relevant to record management.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) preferred.
    • Must be able to handle multiple competing tasks, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the applicability, review, and protection of HIPAA and Patient Health Information (PHI).

    Physical requirements:
    The physical requirements for this position include being able to read, write clearly, talk, and listen. Must have normal auditory processing. 50% of time, incumbent is seated and talking on the phone or using a computer. May require a valid Driver's License. Must be 21 years old or older.
