Job Description

The Electrical Engineer focuses on the design and engineering of power, lighting, grounding/bonding, special systems (e.g., telephone/ data, security, fire alarm), raceway, cable tray, and other electrical control and building support systems into the built work environment. Typical tasks and deliverables include power load, illumination, short circuit and voltage drop calculations; basis of design reports; code evaluations; one-line diagrams; plans; schedules; installation details; specifications; and coordination with manufacturers and construction trade partners. Tasks will include utilizing software for building information modeling, computer-aided drafting and engineering calculations. Project work will be under the direction of a more experienced engineer and may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration. This individual may also delegate basic and fundamental tasks to entry-level engineers and designers.  

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of a more experienced engineer to execute design responsibilities.  
  • Designs electrical systems of basic complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines.  
  • Works closely with other architects, engineers and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible and complete design.  
  • Performs illumination calculations, power load calculations, conduit and wire sizing calculations and other engineering calculations of basic complexity as required to confirm project requirements are met.  
  • Develops electrical systems documentation in the form of narratives, reports, drawings and diagrams to be used for construction of basic complexity.  
  • Utilizes various platforms to execute work, such as Microsoft Office products and available BIM software.  
  • Attends professional development activities.  
  • Conducts basic field investigations to integrate the design with existing systems and structures.  
  • May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor.  
  • Supports basic construction activities such as design bulletins, RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports.  
  • Participates and contributes to quality checks and overall commitment to producing quality deliverables.  
  • Provides mentorship to Designer I and/or Electrical Intern.  
  • Participates in basic project systems design programming and master planning with support from Design Lead or Senior Engineer.  
Qualifications
  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Engineering Technology  
  • 3 years of experience  
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam completion  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Relevant design firm experience  
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite 
  • Basic knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments  
  • Basic experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing electrical lighting, power and special system designs  
  • Basic experience with using and applying electrical codes and standards (NFPA, IESNA, UL, OSHA, and/or IEEE)  
  • Basic experience with using and applying applicable building codes  
  • Ability to interface with clients and external partners  
  • Ability to travel as required for client development and project execution  
  • Basic experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and providing support of field reporting  
  • Proficient with basic internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination  
  • Proficient with basic coordination activities with construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers  
  • Proficient at basic electrical lighting, power and special systems design calculations under supervision of a Lead or Senior Electrical Engineer
