Job description

Role: Android Developer (Automotive)

Location: Detroit, MI (Hybrid)

Duration: 10+ Months 

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Entry Level Android Developer with experience in Automotive Android platform development to design, develop, and maintain Android applications, services, and middleware for next-generation automotive systems. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with Android Automotive, vehicle communication protocols, middleware development, and automotive software engineering practices.

Experience: 2+ Yrs.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design, develop, and maintain Android applications, services, and middleware components for automotive platforms.
  • Develop and maintain custom vendor-specific middleware services and Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) components.
  • Implement features using Kotlin and Java following Android best practices.
  • Work with automotive communication protocols including CAN and Ethernet (SOME/IP).
  • Develop and integrate AIDL interfaces for inter-process communication.
  • Perform low-level software design, implementation, debugging, and optimization.
  • Use Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, and CAPL for simulation, testing, and diagnostics.
  • Work on hardware benches to sideload applications, debug issues, capture logs, and validate software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including system, integration, and validation engineers.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with ASPICE and automotive software development best practices.
  • Develop automation scripts using Python and work with UML and JSON for design and configuration.
  • Support cloud-based development workflows using AWS tools where applicable.


Required Skills:


  • 2+ years of Android development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Kotlin and Java.
  • Experience developing Android applications, services, and middleware.
  • Hands-on experience with AIDL.
  • Knowledge of CAN and Ethernet (SOME/IP) communication protocols.
  • Experience developing custom middleware services and Android HAL.
  • Proficiency with Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, and CAPL.
  • Experience working with automotive hardware benches for deployment, debugging, and log analysis.
  • Understanding of Automotive ECU software development.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ASPICE standards and automotive software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with Python, UML, and JSON.


Preferred Skills:


  • Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS).
  • Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-based development environments.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Experience with Git and code review tools.
  • Understanding of embedded Linux and automotive middleware architecture.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience working in automotive software development projects is highly preferred.
