Description
The School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications for one (1) full-time, Academic Professional Track (non-tenure) Research Assistant Professor faculty position. This position is an 11-month academic appointment with an anticipated start in late summer or Fall 2026. The Research Assistant Professor will contribute to collaborative research in cancer mechanobiology. The successful candidate is expected to help generate externally funded research, mentor graduate students, publish peer-reviewed papers, and participate in collaborative research initiatives within the School of Engineering Medicine and Texas A&M University. The position will be aligned with the School of Engineering Medicine research program and collaborative initiatives involving Texas A&M Engineering Medicine and affiliated clinical/research partners.
About the School of Engineering Medicine:
The School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) is a pioneer in translational medicine and research. Currently, SEM houses the Engineering Medicine (EnMed) medical education program (enmed.tamu.edu). This innovative program represents a partnership among the Texas A&M College of Engineering (COE), Texas A&M Vashisht College of Medicine (VCOM), and Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH). Each of these partners has an outstanding national ranking and offers state-of-the-art facilities for education and research. In addition, TAMU, SEM, and HMH provide excellent support for innovation and entrepreneurship. Students applying to the EnMed program must have an undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and meet the prerequisites required by VCOM and COE. EnMed is the nation's only program to award both a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Master of Engineering in Innovation in Medicine degree within four years.
About the Location:
This position is based in the Discovery Tower, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston. The TMC, the largest medical center in the world, hosts 21 hospitals and 8 specialty institutions, including the largest pediatric and cancer hospitals. The TMC ecosystem is also a global hub for medical technology innovation, featuring numerous startups, incubators, accelerators, and research institutions.
