Primary Purpose of Position
The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities, and all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, College, and University as needed.
Applicants for this position may be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. This is a 9-month tenure-track position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina A & T State University is a public land grant high research activity institution that is committed to dedicated teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service. The University enrolls over 15,200 students.
Nationally recognized for its leadership and excellence in STEM education and research, N.C. A&T is classified as "R2-High Research Activity" in the Carnegie Classifications and is poised to achieve "R1-Very High Research Activity" status. It also holds Carnegie's earned credential in Community Engagement and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) Innovation and Economic Prosperity designation. The College of Engineering, with over 2,800 students, has EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program in Computer Science. On the Graduate level, the College has 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and 5 Doctoral programs. The 5 research cluster areas of the College of Engineering (COE) are Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity and Resilience, Energy and Sustainability, Healthcare Applications and Complex Systems and Networks. The Computer Science Department has 16 full-time faculty members and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. Current enrollment includes 480 BS, 81 MS, and 32 PhD students. Faculty conduct research in such areas as cyber security and identity, big data, AI and machine learning, cloud computing, software engineering, visualization and multiagent systems. Research and education funding has come from the NSF, DoD, and DoE, and corporations. The department also leads the university's Center for Cyber Defense, designated as a Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and Cyber Defense Research by the NSA and the DHS. Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a closely related discipline; and an academic record fitting of the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank.
