The Epic Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of reporting, analytics, dashboards, and data visualization solutions that support organizational decision-making, operational performance, quality improvement, financial stewardship, and strategic initiatives. This role serves as the primary analytical and reporting resource for assigned Epic application and operational areas, leveraging Epic reporting tools, enterprise data platforms, and business intelligence solutions to transform healthcare data into actionable insights. The Epic Business Intelligence Analyst partners closely with operational leaders, clinical stakeholders, revenue cycle leaders, Epic application teams, informatics, and information technology departments to identify reporting requirements, develop meaningful analytics, support regulatory and operational reporting needs, and drive data-informed decision-making across the organization. This role plays a critical role in Epic implementation, optimization, performance monitoring, and long-term reporting sustainability.

  • 3 years of experience in healthcare information technology, healthcare analytics, business 
    intelligence, data reporting, clinical informatics, revenue cycle, or related experience, required. 
  • 1 year of experience developing reports, dashboards, analytics, or business intelligence 
    solutions, required.
  • 1 year of experience gathering business requirements and translating them into reporting 
    solutions, required.
  • 1 year of experience supporting Epic implementations, upgrades, or optimization initiatives, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with SQL, relational databases, data visualization tools, or enterprise 
    analytics platforms, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience working with healthcare performance metrics, quality reporting, 
    regulatory reporting, and executive dashboards, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, finance, health care administration, public health, information systems, business analytics, data science, or other related field, required, OR four years of directly experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. 
  • Epic certification in applicable modules, such as Cogito, Clarity Data Model, Caboodle, Radar, Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, or ability to attain Epic certification(s) in assigned module(s) within a defined timeframe determined at time of hire. 

As part of our selection process, candidates being considered for this position will be required to complete a Sphinx Assessment, which is used to evaluate job-related competencies and determine overall suitability for the role. Successful completion of the assessment is a required component of the hiring process.
 

This position also requires active participation in various phases of the Epic application lifecycle, including but not limited to implementation, go-live support, stabilization, optimization, and system upgrades. Candidates must be willing and able to accommodate the demands associated with these activities, which may include:

  • This position operates in a hybrid work environment and may require a minimum of 25% onsite presence to support operational and business needs.
  • Working additional hours outside of regularly scheduled business hours, including evenings and weekends, as project needs dictate.
  • Participating in on-site go-live and support activities across multiple organizational locations.
  • Traveling occasionally for Epic training, certification, project meetings, or other work-related purposes, including travel outside of the state.
  • Traveling between organizational facilities to provide operational, project, and end-user support.

Candidates should be prepared to maintain flexibility in their schedules to support critical project milestones and organizational operational needs.

  • Designs, develops, tests, validates, and maintains Epic reporting solutions, dashboards, scorecards, and analytical tools. Creates and supports Epic reporting workbench reports, Radar dashboards, SlicerDicer content, Cogito reporting solutions, Clarity reports, Caboodle analytics, and other Epic reporting tools as assigned. Translates business, clinical, operational, and financial requirements into reporting and analytics solutions. Develops standardized enterprise reporting to support organizational goals and performance measurement. Ensures reporting solutions align with organizational standards, governance requirements, and Epic best practices.
  • Analyzes complex healthcare, clinical, operational, financial, and revenue cycle data to identify trends, 
    opportunities, and performance improvement initiatives. Interprets data and provide actionable 
    recommendations to operational and executive leadership. Conducts root-cause analyses and support 
    performance improvement initiatives through advanced analytics. Develops key performance indicators (KPIs), benchmarks, and outcome metrics supporting organizational objectives. Supports ongoing data-driven decision-making through meaningful reporting and visualization strategies.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders, clinicians, revenue cycle teams, and other stakeholders to understand reporting needs and business objectives. Facilitates requirements gathering sessions and translate stakeholder needs into technical specifications. Educates users on available reporting tools, data definitions, and reporting capabilities. Manages reporting requests through established governance and prioritization processes. Serves as a trusted advisor regarding Epic reporting capabilities and analytical opportunities.
  • Validates reporting accuracy, completeness, and consistency across reporting platforms. Performs testing and quality assurance activities for new reports, dashboards, enhancements, and upgrades. Investigates data discrepancies and collaborate with application analysts and data architects to resolve issues. Develops and maintains documentation supporting report logic, assumptions, and data definitions. Supports enterprise data governance initiatives to ensure data integrity and consistency. 
  •  Participates in Epic implementations, upgrades, optimizations, and new module deployments. Supports reporting readiness activities, testing efforts, and deployment planning. Collaborates with Epic application teams to understand workflow impacts on reporting and analytics. Assists with go-live support, stabilization efforts, and post-implementation performance monitoring. Recommends opportunities to enhance reporting efficiency, automation, and user experience.
  • Supports reporting requirements related to regulatory agencies, accreditation standards, quality programs, and organizational performance initiatives. Develops and maintains reports supporting patient safety, quality, operational excellence, reimbursement, compliance, and strategic objectives. Ensures reporting solutions comply with organizational policies, data governance standards, and regulatory requirements. Assists with audit preparation and validation of reporting methodologies as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement through analytics, automation, and enhanced reporting methodologies. Monitors reporting utilization and stakeholder feedback to improve reporting effectiveness. Stays current on Epic reporting enhancements, healthcare analytics trends, and emerging business intelligence technologies. Recommends innovative reporting and visualization strategies that improve insight generation and operational performance. Promotes data literacy and adoption of self-service analytics tools across the organization.
  • Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
