Summary

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Faculty - Biology - Hereford who will be all-in on our mission and who provides high-quality, learner-centered instruction in Biology courses, including classroom, laboratory, technology-supported, and online environments. Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering course content, assessing student learning outcomes, and maintaining academic standards consistent with Amarillo College policies and approved curriculum. The faculty member supports student success by maintaining subject matter expertise, engaging in professional development, and participating in departmental, divisional, and college initiatives that promote teaching excellence, student engagement, and continuous improvement. Faculty are expected to actively contribute to Amarillo College's mission of transforming our community and economy through learning, innovation, and achievement.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: Master's Degree in Biology or a closely related discipline with at least twelve (12) graduate semester hours in Anatomy & Physiology and at least six (6) additional graduate semester hours in Biology, consistent with SACSCOC faculty credential guidelines.
Preferred: Doctorate in Biology or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: One (1) year of postsecondary teaching experience in Biology or a closely related discipline.
Preferred: Three (3) or more years of teaching experience in higher education. Experience teaching Anatomy & Physiology and/or Microbiology. Experience teaching in online or technology-supported learning environments.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach Biology courses in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online formats as assigned.
  • Prepare and deliver organized, engaging instruction aligned with approved course outlines and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi consistent with college curriculum and catalog descriptions.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, exams, projects, and other assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and required reports.
  • Participate in curriculum review, course development, and program improvement activities.
  • Select and evaluate instructional materials, including textbooks, laboratory materials, and digital resources.
  • Support departmental assessment efforts and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide academic guidance and support to students through office hours and other student engagement activities.
  • Encourage critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and student participation in the learning process.
  • Support student retention, completion, and academic success.
  • Participate in faculty development programs and professional learning opportunities.
  • Attend and participate in all department and college wide faculty meetings. recruitment activities, and institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain professional expertise and knowledge in the biological sciences.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle laboratory materials and equipment. The employee may occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Working Environment: This position may require a flexible schedule, including day, evening, or weekend classes, depending on instructional needs. Faculty may be required to teach on multiple campuses or through online delivery as assigned.
