Job description

As an entry-level role, the Engineering Support Technician assists the Engineering, Production, and Sales teams by developing accurate cost estimates and quotes. This position supports daily operations and shop floor activities by maintaining critical part data and facilitating the transition of projects into manufacturing. This is an ideal career starter for those interested in manufacturing engineering, estimating, or operations support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quoting and Estimating: Coordinate the full quoting lifecycle, including preparing accurate cost estimates for new and existing parts, maintaining documentation, and providing quoting support for customer orders.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain technical production documentation, including part routings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), work orders, and production packets.
  • Data and Systems Management: Maintain data integrity by entering and organizing part data, estimates, and quotes within company ERP/MRP systems.
  • New Part Implementation: Facilitate the transition of quoted parts into manufacturing by supporting setup and initial production activities, such as APQP and PPAP.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze cost and production data to identify discrepancies and recommend opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
  • Engineering Support: Support production floor activities through process reviews, manufacturing feasibility assessments, and handling engineering change requests (CRs).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Quality to ensure estimates reflect current processes and materials.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or coursework in engineering or manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience: 1–3 years in manufacturing, engineering support, estimating, or customer service preferred.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, especially Excel), and the ability to read/interpret basic technical drawings or blueprints.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and personnel.
  • Math: Ability to perform high school–level mathematics, including ratios, percentages, and basic cost components.

Physical Requirements & Environment

  • Work Setting: Primarily office-based with regular time spent in a manufacturing/shop floor environment.
