Job description
Overview:
Under the supervision of the Engineering Resource Manager and various project managers, the Vehicle Track Interaction (VTI) Engineer provides professional engineering support and assistance on projects for various customers, including FRA, AAR, member railroads, and commercial clients. The ideal candidate will perform essential engineering tasks across all phases of testing and research projects, including literature review support, experimental and simulation design, test planning, laboratory and field testing, data collection, data analysis, and communication of results and recommendations. In performing these tasks, the candidate must communicate amongst diverse project teams, project managers, and program managers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing engineering support functions as assigned, including the following:
- Analyzing both test and simulation work.
- Writing test plans.
- Conducting tests and simulations as required.
- Writing technical reports for tests and projects.
- Preparing technical presentation materials/slides.
- Communicating regularly with project team members to support the work.
- Must understand and adhere to the budget, schedule, and scope of work for assigned projects.
- Work closely with other MxV Rail employees to ensure the highest quality work product is delivered to customers.
- Responsible for quality, timeliness, and completeness of assignments.
- Learn and run a suite of MxV Rail-developed software (i.e., NUCARS, TOES, Multivu, etc.).
- Promote teamwork and continuous quality improvement.
- Act as backup to and support other engineers or project managers as needed.
- Interface with customers as requested.
- Ensure that all duties and responsibilities are performed safely.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Open to learning and living the MxV Rail values (Momentum, Insight, Teamwork, Rigor, Purpose) in all facets of the organization's work.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or another technical degree with equivalent experience.
- Entry-level to two years of related experience.
- Colorado Class "R" Driver's License (or equivalent).
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Experience in technical paper and presentation preparation through work experience or university coursework.
- Must be computer-oriented and have demonstrable computer skills.
- Experience in physical experiments, including planning and coordination with an experiment team.
- Proficient in using MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of the design of experiments and data collection (either through work experience or university coursework).
- Must be able to read data, interpret results, and demonstrate good analytical capabilities.
- Experience in data analysis, either through work experience or university coursework.
- Working knowledge of data analysis and dynamic modeling software packages.
- Dynamics background, either through work experience or university coursework.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or computer-aided design software.
- Have the ability to travel as needed for project support.
- Possess the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Be willing to contribute to hands-on fieldwork to support projects in person.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Engineering or related field.
- Three-plus years of related experience.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience in the following:
- Multibody dynamics analysis.
- Using rail vehicle-track interaction software such as NUCARS®, Simpack, or Vampire®.
- Finite Element Analysis.
- Transducer, digital data acquisition, and data analysis experience.
Working Environment and Level of Physical Activity:

- Environment: Office and field environments. Must be able to walk in an industrial and/or railroad environment, including uneven surfaces such as ballast.

- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- Travel: Travel will be required to support industry events and outreach, and it is estimated to be 15%.
- Work Location: Headquarters is located in Pueblo, Colorado, and the candidate must live in Colorado and be able to work on-site as required.
