Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

This position is an entry level position who will work with a more experienced engineering technician until he/she is proficient in all routine tasks. This technician is responsible for performing varied but standardized tests and procedures using scientific techniques and methods; recording, analyzing, and reporting results; and working under oversight of the supervisor or a more experienced technician. Work may be checked in progress and technical accuracy is reviewed on completion.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Apply basic skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to area of specialization.
  • Conduct routine tests, analyze the data and document results.
  • Participate in systems integration, fabrication and modification tasks.
  • Provide support and assistance with systems pre-test setup, integration, checkout, and post- test tear-down.
  • Work under direct supervision but may select from a variety of established procedures to accomplish tasks.
  • Setup digital data acquisition equipment.
  • Compute and combine data and report findings to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as may be required by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance
  • HS plus 2 years of experience in electronics, hydraulics and/or applicable military experience or vocational education, or Associate Degree in electronics, engineering, electrical field or a related discipline
  • General knowledge of electronics, computers, instrumentation, and plumbing
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in electronics, engineering, electrical or a related discipline
  • Experience in LabView
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, hydraulics, welding or vocational education.
  • Strong electronics background
  • Strong math skills
  • Data collection experience

WORK ENVIROMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is in a laboratory environment and requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses and protective shoes.

Physical Demands

In performing the work for this position, the Technician must be able to:

  • Work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Climb ladders and stairs in performing the work.
  • Grasp objects utilizing the fingers (fine motor manipulation).
  • Reach for objects above the head or below the waist.
  • Stoop or crouch by bending at the waist or by bending legs.
  • Distinguish colors effectively.
  • Occasionally lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Up to 10%; occasional overnight travel may be required.
