Job description

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

  • This entry-level Maintenance Technician role supports the maintenance department in keeping production equipment and facility systems operating safely, reliably, and efficiently
  • You will assist with facilities upkeep, including tasks such as shoveling and general maintenance, while learning and contributing to mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance activities in a specialty chemicals manufacturing environment

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance department in ensuring that production equipment and the building are maintained to a high standard of safety and reliability
  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Environmental, Health and Safety, Engineering, Waste Water Treatment, and Manufacturing during normal operations, improvement initiatives, and equipment upgrade projects
  • Work with external contractors as needed to support maintenance, repair, and upgrade activities
  • Coordinate and work with safety and regulatory compliance agencies to help ensure adherence to applicable standards and requirements
  • Assist in directing the preventive maintenance (P.M.) program and perform general repairs on production and facility equipment
  • Support supervisory activities for the maintenance staff as directed, helping to organize daily work and priorities
  • Assist with managing the department budget and parts inventory by tracking usage and helping to ensure necessary parts and materials are available
  • Participate in training and development of mechanics by sharing knowledge, demonstrating safe work practices, and supporting skill-building activities
  • Perform hands-on pipe fitting, welding, electrical work, and general equipment repairs as skills develop
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely to move parts, tools, and equipment as needed

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on knowledge or aptitude in pipe fitting, welding, electrical work, and general equipment repair
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance concepts, including working with 480V, 240V, and 110V, 3-phase power, wiring, pumps, PLCs, and controls
  • Ability to operate a fork truck (forklift) safely or willingness to be trained and certified
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with multiple departments and external contractors
  • Basic computer skills to support maintenance documentation, communication, and parts tracking
