Summary:
The Data Center Technician I provides entry-level operational and technical support for the Datacenter Operations Center (DOC) within the U.S. Department of the Interior Office of Information Management and Technology (OIMT). This position supports the 24x7x365 monitoring and operation of the Albuquerque Data Center (ADC), a commercially owned, government-operated Tier III data center, ensuring the availability and reliability of enterprise infrastructure systems.
The technician assists with monitoring infrastructure systems, performing routine operational checks, supporting equipment installation, and responding to operational alerts under the guidance of senior staff.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Monitor data center infrastructure systems including power, cooling, environmental controls, and network connectivity using enterprise monitoring tools
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of hardware, software, and infrastructure components within the data center environment
  • Perform routine inspections and operational checks to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment
  • Support installation, removal, and replacement of hardware components such as servers, racks, cabling, and peripheral devices
  • Assist with cable management and basic rack-and-stack activities following established data center standards
  • Document operational activities, incidents, and maintenance actions in accordance with OIMT procedures
  • Support break/fix activities and coordinate with senior technicians or administrators to resolve infrastructure issues
  • Follow established access control, physical security, and safety procedures within the data center environment
  • Provide support for configuration management and asset tracking processes
  • Escalate system alerts, anomalies, or operational issues to senior staff for further investigation

Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills
  • Must have ability to contribute in writing to team documentation, activities and processes
  • Ability to perform work tasks with guidance
  • Attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree or combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 6 months of related technical experience in supporting Information Technology environment and a managed computer room, facility or datacenter
  • Support would include (but not limited to) administration and configuration of datacenter infrastructure and support management systems

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with data center monitoring tools or IT infrastructure management systems
  • Experience working in enterprise IT or government environments
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar
