The IT Support and Reporting Assistant provides entry-level technical support to employees and assists with routine organizational reporting. This position will work under the direction of the Data Analyst and IT Project Manager and will support day-to-day help desk requests, computer and peripheral setup, hardware inventory, software deployment, basic network troubleshooting, and technology projects.

The position will also assist with recurring reports by following established procedures, maintaining reporting schedules, reviewing data for completeness, and escalating discrepancies when necessary.

The anticipated starting workload is approximately 60% IT support and 40% reporting and administrative support, although responsibilities may shift based on organizational projects and operational needs.

Help Desk and User Support

  • Serve as a first point of contact for routine employee technology questions and support requests.
  • Receive, document, prioritize, and track help desk tickets through resolution.
  • Troubleshoot common computer, monitor, printer, scanner, phone, internet connectivity, and software issues.
  • Assist employees with password resets, account access, email setup, printing, shared folders, and other routine technical needs.
  • Provide basic technical guidance to employees in person, by phone, through email, or through remote-support software.
  • Escalate network, server, security, application, and other advanced issues to the appropriate internal staff member or outside vendor.
  • Follow up with employees to confirm that reported issues have been resolved.
  • Maintain clear documentation of troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and recurring issues.

Computer and Hardware Support

  • Assemble, configure, install, and deploy desktop computers, laptops, monitors, docking stations, printers, scanners, phones, and other equipment.
  • Install approved operating system updates, applications, drivers, and security software.
  • Replace or upgrade basic computer components such as memory, hard drives, cables, keyboards, and other peripherals.
  • Prepare and configure equipment for new employees, transfers, and workstation changes.
  • Collect, inspect, clean, reset, and securely store equipment returned by separated employees.
  • Assist with workstation moves, office relocations, and technology setup at organizational facilities.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of network cables, wall connections, switches, wireless connections, and other connectivity equipment.
  • Coordinate warranty repairs, equipment replacements, and vendor support when needed.

Equipment Inventory and Asset Management

  • Apply asset tags to computers, monitors, phones, printers, network equipment, and other organizational hardware.
  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory records, including asset numbers, serial numbers, assigned employees, locations, equipment status, and deployment dates.
  • Update inventory records when equipment is purchased, assigned, transferred, returned, repaired, replaced, or retired.
  • Organize equipment storage areas and maintain appropriate records for available, deployed, damaged, and retired equipment.
  • Assist with the secure disposal or recycling of obsolete technology equipment in accordance with organizational policies.

Reporting and Data Support

  • Complete recurring reports by following established written procedures and reporting calendars.
  • Run approved reports from organizational systems using saved settings, standard filters, or established instructions.
  • Export data into Excel.
  • Update recurring spreadsheets, tracking logs, and reporting templates.
  • Perform basic data cleanup, including identifying blank fields, duplicates, incorrect formats, or other obvious inconsistencies.
  • Track report due dates and provide timely updates regarding completion or identified issues.
  • Assist with basic charts, tables, pivot tables, and summary reports after receiving training and written instructions.
  • Document reporting procedures so recurring reports can be completed consistently.

Documentation and Administrative Support

  • Create and update step-by-step instructions, equipment setup guides, troubleshooting notes, and internal technology documentation.
  • Assist with employee technology onboarding and offboarding checklists.
  • Communicate professionally with employees, vendors, and outside technical support representatives.
  • Participate in technology projects, staff training, equipment deployments, and system testing as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties that support the organization’s IT operations, reporting functions, and administrative needs.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of coursework, vocational training, certification training, or hands-on experience related to information technology, computer repair, networking, or a similar field.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, Windows operating systems, software installation, and common office technology.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as wired and wireless connections, IP addresses, routers, switches, and network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to assemble computers and connect monitors, printers, phones, scanners, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to follow detailed written procedures, checklists, and reporting instructions.
  • Ability to organize files, maintain accurate records, and manage multiple assigned tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to verify work before submitting it.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and respectfully to employees with different levels of technical experience.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle protected health information, employee information, passwords, and other sensitive data.
