Kind of Work Responsible technical and administrative work performing entry-level to journey-level geographic information systems (GIS) support functions involving spatial data maintenance, asset record management, mapping, and GIS data processing activities. Work includes maintaining and updating geospatial databases, interpreting engineering and infrastructure records, supporting field data collection efforts, performing quality assurance reviews, and providing technical support for GIS-related projects. Employees in this class have regular contact with departmental personnel and GIS users to exchange information, resolve routine issues, coordinate work activities, and support the maintenance of accurate and reliable GIS data.

Related work is performed as required. Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree* in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geography, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

OR 2. Associate's Degree* in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geography, or a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the support, design and/or implementation of Geographic Information database mapping systems (GIS). OR 3.

High School Diploma or GED* and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the support, design and/or implementation of Geographic Information database mapping systems (GIS). Note: An Esri Technical Certification or Esri Professional Certification* may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. * Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and certification claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification.

DOMICILE REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after January 1, 2013, must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire. DOMICILE REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT (SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD): Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application**. Residency requirements are waived for all Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans positions vacant and advertised for at least 90 days. Employees hired under this waiver remain exempt from the city's residency requirement for the duration of their employment at the Sewerage and Water Board.
