About the Role:

The Heavy Truck Disel Mechanic is seeking an entry level mechanic to join our 1st shift maintenance team. You will work closely with and assist our lead mechanic in maintaining and repairing our fleet of heavy trucks and trailers. All tasks will be assigned and supervised by the lead mechanic.

Shift: 2PM-10PM or 8AM-4PM (Job Type: Full-time) | Location: Southington, CT

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead mechanic with routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy trucks and trailers.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and greasing fittings.
  • Help with tire changes, brake inspections, and other preventative maintenance work.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding tasks and progress.
  • Research pricing of equipment and supplies to identify superior pricing
  • Prioritize work orders for completion in a systematic and efficient manner 
  • Assists work orders for outside contractors      
  • Conducts routine testing of equipment and inspection of the warehouse
  • Cross-trains in other areas of the business and assists in those areas as needed.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills
  • Safety-minded with an understanding of proper tool use
  • Must be punctual and have reliable transportation
  • Ability to work well and communicate with others
  • Able to understand and communicate in English
  • Strong work ethic; self-motivated by the company’s mission
  • Able to pass all pre-employment requirements including drug test and I-9 verification
  • Physically able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs for most of the shift
  • Must adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems is a plus (both ac and dc current)
  • Read and interpret engineering piping and instrument drawings, electrical diagrams and schematics, and electrical logic diagrams
  • Carpentry, framing and general construction skills
  • Welding certification and/or welding experience is a plus
  • Skills in maintaining maintenance facilities, equipment, and tools
  • Ability to troubleshoot, identify the problem, determine the cause and repair as needed
  • Working knowledge and experience with multiple hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to operate/drive a powered pallet jack and forklift, scissor lift and truck
  • Knowledge of Computer Assisted Drawing/Auto-CAD training is a plus
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normal work environment is outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, high levels of noise, smells/odors and at times exposure to dangerous and/or toxic substances requiring necessary precautions, including PPE.
