Position Summary: 

This is an entry level position working under direct supervision to perform basic setups and operations to produce metal parts and assemblies on a production basis. This position reports to the Production Manager and receives functional direction from more senior machinist.


Essential Job Functions  

  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions, reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes and grinders.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, pin gauges, calipers etc.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools in order to perform machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Perform accurate job moves using company business system.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Understand and support the company's quality policy and applicable elements of the quality management system.
  • Take responsibility for reducing, eliminating, and preventing quality deficiencies, including product escapes.
  • Initiate action to prevent nonconformities related to products, process, or quality systems.
  • Identify quality issues and elevate concerns through appropriate channels for corrective action.
  • Exercise authority and responsibility to uphold quality standards in daily work.

Quality Responsibilities

  • Understand and support the Quality Policy and applicable elements of the Quality Management System relevant to assigned work areas.
  • Take proactive action to reduce, eliminate, and prevent quality deficiencies, including product or process escapes.
  • Initiate actions to prevent nonconformities related to products, processes, and quality systems.
  • Exercise responsibility and authority to identify quality concerns and elevate issues for timely resolution within the quality system.

Communication

  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain professional, constructive, and collaborative working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Essential/Preferred Skills:

  • General knowledge - equivalent to a high school education.
  • Certificate in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Machining Technology Program, or other similar program.
  • 0-3 years of progressive experience working with band saws, drill press, manual lathes, mills, grinders and cutters. 
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Able to read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part.  
  • General computer knowledge  

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing at work station 70-80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, lifting up to 50 lbs. and sitting. Able to perform light typing.
