Job description

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for servicing and maintaining our electro-mechanical equipment, including Daniels' robotic washline, autoclaves, boilers, and various other equipment to support site operations both locally and regionally. This role will oversee the daily cleaning and upkeep of the Baltimore facility by direct leadership of the custodial employee. The maintenance supervisor will also develop and train Maintenance Specialists to provide support to their respective facility.
 
Stationary Engineers and boiler operators start up, regulate, repair, and shut down equipment. They monitor meters, gauges, and computerized controls to ensure that equipment operates safely and within established limits. They use sophisticated electrical and electronic test equipment to service, troubleshoot, repair, and monitor heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Stationary engineers and boiler operators also perform routine maintenance. They may completely overhaul or replace defective valves, gaskets, or bearings. In addition, they lubricate moving parts, replace filters, and remove soot and corrosion that can make a boiler less efficient.
What you will do?
  • Daily hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, service, and repair of on-site equipment
  • Communicate with the Service and Engineering team to arrange spare parts, travel schedules, and overall support
  • Assemble, align, and install equipment and machine upgrades, as necessary, while adhering to timeline and budget
  • Provide 24/7 monitoring of equipment via phone support, with rapid response as needed - both remotely and on-site
  • Routinely inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently and safely
  • Manage a team of 2-3 custodial and entry level maintenance specialists.
  • Assist with other leadership functions in the building, as the business needs.
  • Communicate with facility leadership to arrange planned downtime to complete maintenance activities
  • Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity to generate weekly reports detailing completed tasks and outstanding items
  • Provide remote support to plant facilities outside of the region to get them back in production as quickly as possible
  • Maintain spare parts inventory at the Baltimore facility in partnership with plant management to ensure plants are stocked effectively
  • Cover for other Supervisors and Managers during callouts or vacations
Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: Must have third-grade stationary engineers license - Current and must maintain status during time of employment.
  • Experience: Maintenance experience in mechanical assemblies, boilers, autoclaves, and production equipment
  • Welding, experience with basic repair work
  • Electrical, ability to identify and repair electrical issues and communicate fault conditions
  • Experience in supervising employees in entry-level roles is a plus
  • Skills: Ability to troubleshoot PLC controlled machines, with telephone support
  • Operate engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment
  • Read gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations
  • Monitor and activating boiler water, chemical, and air valves, as well as fuel levels in the boiler
  • Ability to use computers, tablets and smart devices proficiently; navigate Excel spreadsheets and computer-based reporting such as Maintain-X and Myosh; write reports in MS Word and maintain computer-based documentation.
  • Knowledge of medical waste processing center operations
Work Environment
  • This role entails 24/7 emergency monitoring of boiler systems and requires someone who is capable and willing to respond to emergency maintenance situations - even on nights and weekends
  • Typical work week is Monday - Friday, but maintenance may be required on evenings or weekends
  • Internal Relationships: Interface with cross-functional work teams such as engineering, plant operations, global operations, and suppliers
  • External Relationships: Parts suppliers
