About the Role

The CNC Technician Level 1 will be responsible for loading programs into the CNC machine, operating a CNC Lathe and Mill, maintaining Quality and Safety Standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies.


Position Details

  • Shift: Afternoons (Mon-Thurs, 4pm-2am) Weekends (Fri-Sun, 6am-6pm)
  • Location:Calgary, AB (NE Area)


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operation of CNC Lathe/Mill, navigation of machine control and preforming tool wear offset adjustments.
  • Reading and understanding the traveler document.
  • Loading the material into the CNC machine in a correct and safe manner.
  • Managing the raw materials basket by making accurate measurements to verify the correct material size.
  • Performing machine inspection and basic maintenance tasks to ensure proper functioning of a CNC machine.
  • Recognizing broken tooling and inserts during operation.
  • Utilization of tools and equipment including measuring tools, hand tools, power & pneumatic tools, and operating a pallet jack.
  • Locating and identifying the correct inserts.
  • Replacing inserts and tools using the proper technique.
  • Maintaining chip conveyors by identifying chip blockages and safely removing any that should incur.
  • Identified burrs on part and safely removing them.
  • Finishing work pieces and performing quality control checks through reading technical drawings and blueprints and using key measuring tools.
  • Measuring in-process and final part against drawing.
  • Correctly handling finished materials.
  • Performing routine housekeeping around the shop.
  • Adhering to health and safety protocols including always wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and personally acquiring them from available sources (i.e., vending machine).
  • Occasional photocopying, printing, and other job duties assigned as required.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge and previous experience with operating a CNC Lathe and Mill.
  • Possess mechanical and technical skills to effectively operate and troubleshoot a CNC machine independently.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and printings and utilize key measuring tools.
  • Experience with utilizing various hand tools and understanding machine utilization capacity and tooling capabilities.
  • Ability to navigate the control panel.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with employees and supervisors.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Capable of moving heavy equipment, materials, and supplies up to 23 kg (50lbs).
  • Previous knowledge or experience of oil and gas specific threads is an asset.
