THE POSITION

The Department of General Services is searching for Electricians to help ensure the safety and comfort of employees and visitors throughout the Capitol Complex. Within this role, you will apply your skills in a setting where work makes a visible difference every day. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Electrician 1, you will be supporting the electrical needs of the Capitol Complex and nearby buildings by handling a wide range of skilled tasks. Your work helps ensure essential equipment and systems remain safe and reliable. In this role, you will perform the following duties:

  • Electrical Systems Work: Install, maintain, and repair wiring, lighting, controls, and other electrical components
  • Code Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date understanding of National Electrical Code standards
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and correct power failures and short circuits using proper tools and procedures
  • Equipment Use: Operate volt-ohm-milliamp meters, amprobes, meggers, and similar devices to complete assigned work
  • Project Preparation: Follow blueprints and coordinate with other trades to prepare materials and support smooth project flow

Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report in-office during emergencies and office closings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Electrician Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction (City of Harrisburg).
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Formal training in a high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post high school technical program in the Electrical trade
  • Electrical experience in the commercial or industrial setting
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Experience with 3 phase electrical systems
  • Experiencing working with voltages up to and including 480 Volt
  • Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job
  • Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other snow removal equipment
  • This job occasionally requires working at heights. Willingness and ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks or man lifts
