Job description

AC&S, Inc. is seeking a full-time Entry-level Chemical Operator to join our team in Nitro, WV. In this hands-on role, you’ll be trained to operate a variety of equipment used in chemical manufacturing and play a key part in maintaining safe and efficient plant operations.

Schedule: 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday (generally, one weekday off, and rotating monthly

Starting Pay Rate: $23.62/hour (After 1 year; $25.98, after 3 years; $28.35, and after 5 years; $30.71)

Job Purpose

The Chemical Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of chemical processing equipment used in the manufacturing, blending, and packaging of specialty chemical products. This position ensures adherence to all safety, environmental, and quality standards while maintaining accurate production records and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Chemical Operator plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, process reliability, and compliance with industry regulations.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Operate and monitor chemical manufacturing equipment including pumps, fork trucks, and process systems
  • Load and unload materials and products
  • Perform moderate lifting and other physical tasks as required
  • Complete daily safety, quality, and process manufacturing forms
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with supervisors and peers

Physical Demands:

This role involves moderate physical activity and routine technical tasks that require frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting. Employees must be able to lift and move containers up to 55 pounds and operate equipment such as hoses, valves, and forklifts while wearing full PPE, including respirators, gloves, goggles, chemical suits, and steel‑toe boots. Work is performed in a chemical plant environment with exposure to chemicals, fumes, extreme temperatures, loud noise, and moving machinery, including indoor, outdoor, confined‑space, and elevated‑area conditions. Strict adherence to all environmental, health, and safety regulations is required.

Qualifications (No previous chemical operator experience is required — we provide all health and safety training.)

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass a basic math proficiency test
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Physically able to lift moderate weights and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a structured training environment
