Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit, and a willingness to learn new software, is highly valued in this role. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with engineering or architectural teams are important soft skills. These competencies ensure accuracy in design work, effective teamwork, and the ability to support more senior designers or engineers in producing high-quality project drawings.

This provides valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to learn from more senior team members as you grow your skills.

Will CAD drafters be replaced by AI?

CAD drafters perform detailed technical drawing and design work that currently requires human judgment and expertise. While AI tools can assist with automating repetitive tasks and improving efficiency, they are unlikely to fully replace skilled CAD drafters in the near future, as complex design decisions still rely on human input and creativity.

Is CAD a lot of math?

Entry level CAD (Computer-Aided Design) jobs typically require basic math skills such as geometry and measurements, but advanced math is usually not necessary. Proficiency with CAD software and understanding technical drawings are more important than complex calculations for most entry-level positions.
