Byrne & Jones Construction is seeking a skilled, detail-driven Civil CAD Technician to join our team. This role supports our engineering, field, and operations teams by transforming design concepts and collected field data into accurate, high-quality drawings and deliverables. If you enjoy working with data, plans, and precision drafting tools, we'd love to connect with you!
As a Civil CAD Technician, you will support both engineering design and survey operations by producing detailed drawings, site plans, and construction documents. You'll process field and drone data, assist with design layouts and grading plans, and work closely with engineers, survey crews, and drone operators to deliver timely, accurate information that supports design, layout, and construction activities. Your work helps ensure our projects are built from reliable plans and accurate data.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Process survey field data, drone data, and GPS point files to create accurate maps, surfaces, and drawings.
  • Assist with calculating points, alignments, and layouts based on project requirements and design plans.
  • Support the development of topographic surveys, boundary exhibits, site maps, and construction layouts.
  • Import, clean, and organize point clouds, photogrammetry data, and digital terrain models.
  • Generate surfaces, contours, cut/fill maps, earthwork quantities, and other construction-related deliverables.
  • Coordinate with engineers and survey crews to clarify design intent and field notes, resolve data gaps, and ensure accuracy.
  • Support field and operations teams with layout files, drawing revisions, and digital models.
  • Maintain organized file structures, layer standards, and CAD templates per company practices.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure drawings meet project and company standards.
  • Assist with reports, exhibits, as-builts, and project documentation.
  • Stay current on AutoCAD and Civil 3D features and best practices.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D strongly preferred.
  • Civil engineering and/or surveying background preferred; survey-specific experience is not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and drafting accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and field data.
  • Familiarity with civil design concepts, coordinate systems, or construction layout is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to data inconsistencies or missing information.
  • Willingness to learn surveying principles and workflows on the job.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to read plans, documents, and screens for long durations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and virtually.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for job site visits or meetings.
