Job description

Description
The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the formulation and development of filled, reinforced and impact modified engineered thermoplastic compounds. This is a hands-on position that requires a significant amount of formulation, process, and lab work, as well as day to day interaction with customers, material, and equipment vendors, other RTP Development Engineers, Technicians, Sales Engineers, Customer Service Representatives, Gahanna Plant, Quality and Production Management as well as Market and Product Managers. The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of practical experience in the plastic compounding field.
Requirements
Responsibilities
  • Plan experimental work (using formal experimental design techniques when appropriate) and schedule, execute, and report results of that work.
  • Author and maintain data sheets and formulation specifications.
  • Field and respond to telephone calls and e-mails from customers, Sales Engineers, and Application Development Engineers.
  • Provide problem solving and troubleshooting support to customers and co-workers.
  • Participate in technical reviews, presentations, and process trials at customer facilities.
  • Stay informed of developing technologies and intellectual property relating to engineered thermoplastic compounds.
  • Consult with co-workers and other experts within the industry to facilitate RTPs' ability to provide our customers with the best total solution for their application.
  • Provide application development support to RTP Company's Sale Force and customers.
  • Evaluate and approve new raw materials.
  • Train and teach other Engineers and Technicians.
  • Support the Gahanna plant with technical assistance as it relates to process and quality of our products manufactured in the factory.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, or apparent.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong organizational skills, familiarity with experimental design techniques, and statistical analysis required.
  • Practical and common-sense approach to processing/manufacturing required.
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently.
  • Must be well organized and have a strong attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with and work well with people in various positions and levels within and outside the company.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and safety awareness.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Education and Experience
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience required.
  • Education and/or experience with plastic processing technologies preferred.
  • Must be proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook; must be adept at learning new software.

Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses, shoes, face shields, gloves, etc.
