Job description

Job Title: Senior R&D Engineer, Drug Delivery Systems (Test & Evaluation)
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Drug Delivery Test & Evaluation Engineer to join a multidisciplinary R&D team dedicated to pioneering innovative delivery systems. In this role, you will apply core engineering and scientific principles to evaluate the performance of formulation and device prototypes. You will be responsible for the end-to-end testing lifecycle-from designing custom experimental setups to executing aerosol characterization and analyzing complex datasets. The ideal candidate is a laboratory-focused professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses the technical rigor required to ensure compliance with global regulatory and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Experimental Design & Execution: Develop and implement robust test plans for drug delivery devices and formulations intended for clinical trials. Ensure all activities align with ISO and pharmaceutical quality systems.
• Aerosol Characterization: Conduct specialized laboratory experiments involving particle size analysis and breathing simulations to evaluate device efficacy and performance.
• Method Development: Design and build custom test setups and methodologies when standard equipment or off-the-shelf solutions are insufficient for R&D needs.
• Analytical Data Modeling: Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and "first principles" engineering analysis to provide actionable product development recommendations.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain meticulous records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP). Prepare high-quality technical reports and findings for internal stakeholders and regulatory submissions.
• Laboratory Operations: Operate and maintain specialized instrumentation, including cascade impactors, particle size analyzers, and chromatography systems. Manage lab materials and ensure a safe workspace for handling powders and aerosols.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with formulation scientists and device designers to interpret results and drive the iterative development of next-generation delivery platforms.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Technical Experience:
• Proven experience with pulmonary or nasal delivery testing equipment (e.g., Breathing Simulators, Cascade Impactors).
• Knowledge of safe handling practices for aerosols, powders, or nebulized substances.
• Proficiency in Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and technical writing.
• Preferred Skills:
• Experience with UHPLC and optical measurement systems.
• Familiarity with medical device and pharmaceutical regulations (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, or CFR 820.30).
• Experience with 3D CAD software (specifically SolidWorks) for custom test-fixture design.
• Attributes: Ability to work onsite full-time in a lab environment and willingness to use respiratory protective equipment as required. Equal Opportunity Employer / Disabled / Protected Veterans
