Job description

POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented entry-level scientist to support curation and standardization of experimental assay data stored within an internal LIMS database. A successful candidate will review existing records, apply a consistent and pre-defined naming scheme, and work directly with scientists to resolve ambiguous or undocumented experimental information. This is a highly collaborative, data-intensive role that requires a strong background in both laboratory science and data cleaning practices.

An ideal candidate has hands-on or coursework exposure to biochemistry or molecular biology, is comfortable working with spreadsheets and databases, is detail-oriented, and communicates clearly and proactively. RESPONSIBILITIES - Audit existing experimental records and identify inconsistencies, ambiguities, and duplications. - Flag records where information is missing, inconsistent, or requires scientific interpretation.

- Apply pre-defined standards to an existing experimental database. - Translate informal lab terminology into standardized database entries. - Connect with scientists to clarify ambiguous pre-existing experimental information stored in the database.

- Maintain a change log of all modifications made to existing records. - Assist in drafting a central style guide for data schema and data entry. - Participate in periodic reviews with the data sciences and lab teams to refine or create new data entry schema.

QUALIFICATIONS - a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering, Protein Engineering, or a closely related field - Strong written and oral communication skills - Strong record-keeping and organizational skills - Familiarity with common molecular biology principles and laboratory techniques (e.g., mutagenesis, cloning, and transformation) - Familiarity with common protein biochemistry principles and laboratory techniques (e.g., protein expression, purification, and characterization) Preferred Qualifications:  - Familiarity with relational databases, Excel, or basic data querying (SQL or similar)  - Exposure to electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) or LIMS platforms  - Exposure to analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LC-MS, fluorescence plate readers, or gel-based assays - Basic knowledge of protein structure-function relationships and mutation nomenclature - An understanding of directed evolution workflows - Basic experience generating or editing Python/R Scripts WORK ENVIRONMENT This is primarily a desk-based role. The candidate will work closely with both the bioinformatics team and the laboratory team and is expected to be comfortable moving between scientific and data-oriented conversations. Occasional visits to the lab to observe assay setups or review physical lab notebooks may be required.
