Job description

The future of journalism is happening now. Be part of it.

At KXAN, great storytelling isn't confined to a newscast. The stories our videojournalists capture throughout the day serve broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platform audiences, creating more opportunities than ever for your work to be discovered, shared, and valued. We're looking for a Videojournalist and Video Editor who is excited about creating compelling visual content for multiple platforms and helping us stay ahead in an ever-changing media landscape.

This unique role combines weekday editing responsibilities with weekend field reporting and videojournalism, giving you hands-on experience in both newsroom production and storytelling in the field.

What you'll do

  • Create and edit compelling visual content for newscasts, digital platforms, and special projects
  • Capture strong video, natural sound, and storytelling moments
  • Cover breaking news and community stories as a videojournalist
  • Work with professional cameras, editing systems, and live transmission equipment

Great candidates will have:

  • A passion for visual storytelling
  • Interest in both broadcast and digital journalism
  • A strong work ethic and desire to learn
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • The physical ability to carry equipment for gathering video
  • A positive attitude and willingness to accept coaching
  • Safe and responsible driving habits
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Why KXAN?

This is more than an entry-level job. It's an opportunity to build the skills that define the next generation of journalists. At KXAN, you'll learn from one of the most respected videojournalist teams in the business while developing skills that translate across media outlets. If you're a recent graduate or someone looking for a foot in the door, you'll gain real-world experience creating content that reaches audiences wherever they consume news. We're committed to innovation, professional development, and staying ahead of the curve as the media industry evolves. If you're excited about where journalism is headed and want to help shape that future, we'd love to hear from you. Please provide video examples of your work in the application.

Apply today and help tell Austin's stories across every platform that matters.
