The mission of the Texas Department of Banking is to ensure Texas has a safe, sound, and competitive financial services system.
General Description:
The entrylevel Assistant Commercial Bank Examiner assists in the onsite examination of statechartered banks. Reviews bank records to determine the bank's financial condition and compliance with laws and regulations. May also assist in the examination of trust companies. Actively participates in onthejob training and formal training to acquire basic banking knowledge and bank supervisory skills. Participates in training designed to enhance oral and written communication skills, acquire fundamental analytical skills, and develop the ability to function productively. Use a personal computer for various operations and assist in the preparation of reports. Successful career progression will include participation in all areas of Departmental activities and supervision.
Job Duties:
Read and study various reference materials including the Texas Finance Code, FDIC manual of examination policies and procedures, departmental memorandums, and the Department of Banking Procedures manual.
Under the supervision of the ExaminerInCharge (EIC) or designee, assist in reviewing bank records to determine the bank's financial condition and compliance with laws and regulations.
May assist in the examination of trust companies.
Actively participates in onthejob training and formal training to acquire basic banking knowledge and bank supervisory skills.
Participates in training designed to enhance oral and written communication skills, acquire fundamental analytical skills and develop the ability to function productively.
Achieves proficiency with Department approved computer applications and programs to accomplish job duties.
Develop a basic understanding of designated computer functions and operations.
Submit assigned tasks and administrative paperwork in an accurate, neat, legible, and timely manner.
Complete assigned work with progressively reduced supervision.
Attend and successfully complete assigned schools and training seminars.
Safeguard equipment, sensitive data, and other resources.
Performs related work as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualification:
Experience and Education Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university with major course work in finance, accounting, business administration, or economics with a minimum of six hours in accounting, to include basic and intermediate accounting.
o Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale for all accounting hours.
o Must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
A graduate degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, or jobrelated field may substitute for an undergraduate degree that is not business related. (Accounting GPA and hours noted above are still required)
Copy of official college transcripts must be submitted with The State of Texas Application for Employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent college graduate (within the last 3 years)
Entry level work experience with a financial institution desired.
Bilingual in Spanish and English with the ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
Special Requirements:
Position requires at least 50 % overnight trave l. Travel may exceed 75% during the initial probationary period due to training.
Must possess or obtain within 90 days a valid Texas Driver's license. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving any vehicle to conduct agency business. Final applicants must certify that personally owned vehicles used for agency business have Texas minimum liability coverage and a valid state inspection.
This position requires that the incumbent demonstrate strong personal financial responsibility and integrity.

This position requires the incumbent to frequently perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive use of a personal computer, copiers, printers, telephone and client/customer contact. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual, speech and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers. Position requires frequent work under stress, as a team member and in direct contact with others. Travel is at least 50% with overnight stays.
