Job description

Job Description: Senior Developer (Strong UI & Python Fundamentals)
Position: Senior Developer
Location: Chicago
Employment Type: FTC
Experience Level: Senior
Role Overview We're looking for a front-end-leaning engineer with a strong eye for design and user experience who can also contribute to backend work using solid Python fundamentals. You'll build responsive, accessible interfaces in React while assisting with API development, data models, and automated testing on the backend.
Key Responsibilities
  • Frontend (Primary - Strong UI)
    • Design and build responsive, accessible, and visually appealing UIs using React and Vite.
    • Collaborate closely with designers and PMs to translate Figma designs into high-quality interfaces; provide UX feedback and iterate quickly.
    • Maintain front-end quality with unit tests (Vitest) and end-to-end tests (Playwright).
    • Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance UI performance, accessibility, and component reuse.
  • Backend (Python Fundamentals, nice to have not mandated)
    • Contribute to backend services using core Python skills; collaborate on API endpoints, data validation, and service integration.
    • Apply TDD principles with Pytest; write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
    • Work with relational databases (MySQL) and ORMs; assist with SQLAlchemy models and Alembic migrations (hands-on ORM usage preferred over raw scripts).
    • Exposure to DDD concepts is a plus; align modules and data models to domain boundaries where practical.
  • Engineering Excellence & Collaboration
    • Participate in code reviews and follow best practices to ensure code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
    • Help troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve build, test, and deployment workflows.
    • Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and backend teams; communicate clearly and proactively.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Frontend (Strong UI)
    • Proficient in React and Vite for modern, performant front-end development.
    • Testing experience with Vitest and Playwright.
    • Strong sense of visual design and user experience; familiarity with Figma is a plus.
  • Backend (Python Fundamentals)
    • Solid knowledge of Python fundamentals.
    • Nice to have (not required): FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy (ORM), Alembic, Pytest.
  • General
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in agile development environments.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior developers.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
