JOB SUMMARY The primary function of this position is to apply Plant Health Care (PHC) treatments according to label requirements, work order specifications and management directives. The T-1 can complete treatments according to professional standards of quality and safety as well as work in an efficient, organized manner. The proficient T-1 is self-directed and organized. They have an introductory understanding of application procedures that improve the health and appearance of plants and trees on client properties. PHC techs may be required to work off hours, including nights and early mornings. A T-1 works as a contributing member of the tree care team. Additionally, the T-1 can work autonomously, as needed. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Working as part of a team.

  • Performs PHC treatments that maintain healthy trees and plants for our clients.
  • Job site set up, clean up, and organization.
  • Stores chemicals in a neat, secure and orderly fashion in the vehicle and at the yard
  • Keeps accurate and compliant records of chemicals and usage amounts for each job

MIMIMNUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience This is an entry-level position. The technician will receive comprehensive training to develop the necessary skills and competencies. An untrained technician typically requires one year of training to advance to the next level. Qualified candidates must either possess or be able to obtain an applicator's license in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as sales orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and product labels. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to perform these operations using weight measurement, volume, and distance. The comprehension levels required to make arithmetic calculations including fractions, decimals, and percentages. Reasoning Ability Apply critical thinking skills to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Data It is essential to make calculations or estimate weight, volume and distance related to PHC operations Communication It is essential to communicate verbally with the public to direct them safely around and through the work area. It is critical to communicate effectively through a variety of modes and platforms with management and other team members to perform the work within acceptable standards. Best Practices and Procedures It is essential to follow established procedures related to personal hygiene, decontamination, knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment and its limitations, maintenance of equipment, adjustments to equipment, and report malfunctioning equipment. Physical Demands The physical demands described include bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, lifting up to 70 pounds, working in all types of weather including but not limited to cold, hot, and rain. Dexterity with fingers and hands to disassemble/reassemble small parts. Ability to stand and walk throughout the day for hours at a time. Detailed Description of Tasks
  • PHC Tech 1 (T-1) is an entry level position. Team members at the T-1 level have introductory applicator skills and demonstrate proficiency in the following areas related to PHC
  • PHC work procedures- a T-1 can perform basic applications as directed by label and work order.
  • Equipment operation- a T-1 has appropriate DL for assigned vehicle
  • Equipment operation- a T-1 has basic proficiency in a variety of application equipment Including various injection equipment such as soil injection, trunk injections, and backpack sprayers
  • Equipment operation- a T-1 has basic proficiency in a variety of application equipment Including various overhead spray equipment
  • Tools- A T-1 can effectively inspect, use, and maintain all PHC related equipment
  • PPE- A T-1 uses task specific Personal Protective Equipment according to industry standards and company protocols.
  • Jobsite Management- A T-1 is responsible for keeping their work zone safe and organized. A T-1 effectively implements plans to prevent off target or non-target application. A T-1 ensures a protected work zone.
  • Record Keeping- A T-1 records all relevant application data for compliance purposes.
