Job Title: Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance Technician (Level B and Level C)

Job Description

Are you a hands-on technician with mechanical or electrical experience looking for a stable career with growth opportunities? Join a dedicated maintenance team responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable operation of light rail vehicles that serve thousands of passengers every day.

Whether you're building your career as a Level C Technician or bringing advanced troubleshooting expertise as a Level B Technician, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and repairing sophisticated rail systems while working alongside an experienced, safety-focused team.

  • Second Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Third Shift: 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on light rail vehicles (LRVs) and related equipment.
  • Conduct functional testing to verify vehicle safety and operational reliability.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using specialized test equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Complete repairs, replacements, adjustments, alignments, and rebuilds of vehicle components.
  • Service rail vehicles by replenishing fuel, fluids, and sanders as required.
  • Utilize Portable Test Units (PTUs), meters, and bench-testing equipment to troubleshoot system issues.
  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and electrical drawings.
  • Document inspections, maintenance activities, and repair work accurately and completely.
  • Respond to rail vehicle rescue and recovery situations along the service route when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment while following established maintenance procedures and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with fellow technicians and maintenance leadership to ensure timely completion of all work.

Essential Skills

  • Entry-level mechanical experience for Level C Technicians; electrical knowledge is a plus.
  • Previous mechanical experience with strong electrical troubleshooting skills preferred for Level B Technicians.
  • Experience performing inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, and technical documentation.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, particularly for Level B Technicians.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring terminations, crimping tools, and troubleshooting techniques preferred.
  • Experience in rail, automotive, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while following direction from maintenance leadership.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching throughout the workday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on rail cars is preferred, but relevant experience in automotive or similar vehicle maintenance environments is also considered.
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems on vehicles or industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with rail vehicle systems and components is a plus.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment such as meters, bench test equipment, and portable test units (PTU).
  • Ability to operate job-specific shop equipment in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Comfort working in a unionized environment with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills to assist and train other technicians, especially for Level B Technicians.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and operational needs in a 24/7 environment.
