The opportunity
The Resident Services Associate plays a vital role in strengthening our community by supporting diverse programming at our Family Resource Center. Working alongside our Resident Services Coordinator, you'll help create meaningful experiences and essential services that enhance the lives of residents across all age groups-from energetic youth to valued seniors.

What you'll do
  • Assist the Resident Services Coordinator in linking residents with existing programs and services in the community, facilitating their access to services, and providing information and referral services
  • Provide direct service for the After-School program which will include: planning, organizing, and implementing curriculum, monitoring participant progress, providing a stimulating, educational enhancement program
  • Provide translation and interpretation services
  • Assist staff in the creation of community building events
  • Assist with the instruction of onsite classes, programs, after school tutoring, and other services.
  • Outreach to residents to promote programs participation and involvement
  • Distribute a monthly newsletter and fliers for residents to promote activities and programs onsite
  • Assist with the coordination of onsite activities and recruiting new community- based organizations to provide services onsite
  • Assist staff with retrieving and maintaining resident data that reflects resident service needs, demand for services, program and service post surveys, and referrals made through the Family Resource Center
  • Maintain resident attendance records for programs, services, and events

What you'll bring
  • Bilingual English/Farsi required
  • High school diploma
  • One year experience in education, social services, or related nonprofit work
  • Experience serving diverse populations demonstrating cultural competency and community awareness
  • Intermediate skill level with MS Office (Excel, Word, Publisher) & Outlook.
  • Strong time management, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communicator; high level of verbal, written, and listening skills
  • Valid Driver's License, clean driving record, and current automobile insurance.
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds which may include large boxes of food for a supplemental food distribution program. The physical activity of this position includes bending, walking, kneeling, reaching, and step climbing.

The details:
  • This is a part-time (20 hrs/wk), non-exempt position
  • Schedule: Tues-Fri 2pm-6pm, Sat 10am-2pm, every other Weds 4pm-8pm
  • Location: Mason Van Dorn Apartments, 140 S. Van Dorn Street, Alexandria VA
  • Wage: $21/hr
