Position Overview:
Fat Fender Garage is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team in a full-time, on-site permanent role. The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, testing, and integration of electrical wiring systems and components for both in-house custom vehicle builds and retail production products.As part of our in-house engineering team, you will help redefine the customer experience for classic vehicles through innovative electrical solutions blending modern performance with timeless design. Your work will directly support Fat Fender Garage’s commitment to industry-leading innovation, craftsmanship, quality, and long-term growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and standardize automotive electrical wire harness systems.
  • Build prototype harnesses for proof-of-concept, product evaluation, and retail exploration.
  • Support in-house custom vehicle builds by fabricating electrical harnesses as needed.
  • Collaborate with in-house automotive technicians to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical system issues during vehicle builds and testing.
  • Develop, test, and validate electrical components and subsystems for automotive applications.
  • Design and develop automotive electrical products to support retail product growth.
  • Assist coordination with external vendors to establish scalable production capabilities for electrical products.
  • Work within defined product development schedules and project timelines.
  • Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with management, vendors, and team members.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree Electrical or Automotive Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 1.5-year professional experience in electrical or Automotive engineering.
  • Strong knowledge and enthusiasm for vintage trucks, classic vehicles, hot rods, or custom automotive applications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of automotive electrical systems and harness design.
  • Extensive knowledge of both analog and digital electronics.
  • Strong understanding of impedance, grounding strategies, low- and high-current circuit design, noise rejection, electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation, and automotive electrical safety practices.
  • Experience with KiCad schematic capture, board layout or equivalent tool set.
  • Schematic capture design for wire harnesses, electrical components, and PCB board layouts.
  • Experience with programmable logic devices or small-scale microcontrollers is a strong plus.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and project follow-through.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering and fabrication environment.
  • Must be able to contribute to a drug-free workplace.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able work in a shop environment with frequent standing, lifting and carrying supplies up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Frequent reaching overhead and below the knees, including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting.
  • Be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
