Job Summary
The Associate Investment Operations Analyst is an entry-level role that supports day-to-day operational processes related to the trade lifecycle and client reporting under the guidance of senior analysts. This position opens the door to a dynamic learning environment, where you'll engage with a variety of investment products and systems while building essential operations expertise.
This role supports Thrivent's investment process by executing routine middle office functions. This includes trade and corporate action processing, collateral and cash management, multi-managed fund transaction support, class action claim handling, and operational support for derivatives and securities lending activities.
The analyst ensures accuracy in data and assists in maintaining smooth functioning of investment operations. This role is ideal for individuals beginning their career in the investment operations industry.
Success in this role requires working well in a team environment, strong partnership with senior operations analysts and the curiosity to learn and apply core foundational investment operations concepts in executing routine tasks and analytics with accuracy.
Thrivent's Investment Operations function performs middle office work including analytics to execute the trade, reporting, process infrastructure and post-trade execution support. This team is a critical link enabling the front office to focus on investment strategies and client relations and provides the back office with accurate data for reconciliation and accounting.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Investment Operations & Trade Support
  • Provide operational support for equity, fixed income, derivatives, private equity, and investment strategy transactions, ensuring accurate trade verification, affirmation, and settlement.
  • Reconcile trades, positions, and cash balances across multiple asset classes; monitor and escalate discrepancies or breaks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate investment data in internal systems and portfolio accounting platforms; support updates driven by operational processes.
  • Process corporate actions, income collections, variation margins, collateral, and settlements; ensure proper handling and reconciliation.

Relationship Management and Communication
  • Communicate time-sensitive information to portfolio managers, traders, brokers, custodians, fund accountants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise with external partners including brokers, custodians, and vendors to maintain strong working relationships and resolve issues.

Process Improvement
  • Participate in onboarding new accounts and custodial setups; contribute to process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support system enhancements, automation efforts, and cross-functional projects to streamline operations and improve efficiency.

Reporting & Compliance Support
  • Generate and distribute investment-related reports and operational dashboards.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits and internal reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, compliance policies, and investment guidelines.

Job Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related area.
  • General knowledge of investment operations analyst work.
  • Ability and eagerness to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of intellectual curiosity and continuous learning mindset to learn and gain investment industry knowledge.
  • Basic proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel and data management tools.
  • High level of organization, time management and attention to detail with ability to follow structured processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred:
  • Basic understanding of investment instruments including equities, fixed income, and derivatives including trade lifecycle and related operational processes.
  • Internship experience in finance, accounting, or investment operations.
  • Experience with software used to assemble, evaluate, interpret and analyze financial data.
  • Familiarity with trade lifecycle concepts and financial instruments (equities, fixed income, derivatives).

Additional Information
  • This position requires you to work on-site in Minneapolis, MN a minimum of three days a week.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $63,741.00 to $86,238.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
