Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently recruiting for an Power Systems Engineer 2 or 3 level to join our team at our Bacchus facility, located in Magna, Utah.
Job Summary including Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplined project team
  • Comprehensive power system design, control systems, and machine safety experience.
  • Ability to manage large complex projects with skills in power, control and electrical industrial automation.
  • Design power and control systems for industrial process equipment used in the manufacturing of solid propulsion rocket motors, manufacturing facilities and manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop control philosophies and P&ID's.
  • Design electrical control systems using Allen-Bradley PLC's and Schneider SmartX controllers.
  • Have a working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) used to control a variety of equipment, processes, machine tools, and robotics, including Allen Bradley PLC's and Rockwell Software.
  • Design low & medium voltage power distribution systems; specify power distribution equipment, transformers and switch gear; MCC's, power distribution panels, high resistance grounds, UPS's and back-up generators.
  • Develop the following types of electrical drawings: P&ID's, one-line diagrams, schematics, panel arrangements, bill of materials, device layouts, power distribution, control distribution, loop diagrams, panel schedules, conduit layouts and grounding plans.
  • Design, specify, and program servo drives & variable frequency drives (VFD) for all types of motor control applications.
  • Design the following other types of support systems: Fire detection and reporting systems, camera & audio surveillance systems, lightning & grounding protection systems, ethernet & fiber communications systems.
  • Oversee installation and startup of newly designed systems with both internal craft & outside contractors.
  • Oversee an electrical project from conception to completion.
  • The ability to develop drawing packages using AutoCAD.
  • Provide detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation.
  • Develop electrical maintenance guidelines for industrial equipment.
  • Work with maintenance craftsmen to troubleshoot issues.
  • Project management with supervision over all aspects of a project including mechanical, civil, and other crafts overseeing budget and schedule.

This position standard work schedule is a 9/80 or 4/10. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. The 4/10 schedule allows employees to work a ten-hour day Monday through Thursday.
This requisition can be filled at either level 2 or 3
Basic Qualifications:
Level 2
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 2 years of industrial facility or electrical design engineering experience OR 0 years with Masters
  • Industrial process equipment and facility design
  • Experience designing low- and medium-voltage power systems
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (i.e. Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Schneider)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Ability to work in field environments, including climbing ladders, working outdoors, and in confined or congested spaces

Level 3
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of industrial facility or electrical design experience related experience - OR - 3 years of related experience with Master's degree.
  • Industrial process equipment and facility design
  • Experience designing low- and medium-voltage power systems
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (.e. Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Schneider)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Ability to work in field environments, including climbing ladders, working outdoors, and in confined or congested spaces
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Preferred Requirements:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Power system design experience
  • Industrial control design experience
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • AutoCAD drafting ability
  • PLC systems and programming experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
