About RM Auto Care:

We're a high-volume, family-owned auto repair shop in North Providence, RI, serving the community with top-quality repairs and customer service. Last year we hit $2.4M in gross sales, and we're growing fast! Join a tight-knit team of techs, and advisors to and help keep our 7-bay shop running smoothly. Great opportunity for someone looking to start in the auto industry or build skills toward technician roles.

Job Summary:

As our Shop Porter & QC Technician, you'll be the "eyes and hands" keeping the shop flowing—moving vehicles safely, maintaining a clean/organized environment, and performing final quality checks on completed repairs to ensure every customer drives away happy and safe. This hybrid role is perfect for a detail-oriented, reliable person who loves cars and wants hands-on experience in a busy repair shop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Porter Duties:
    • Move customer vehicles in/out of bays, to/from the lot, or for test drives (safely and courteously).
    • Clean and detail vehicles (interior/exterior vacuuming, wiping down, basic wash as needed).
    • Keep the shop spotless: empty trash, sweep/mop floors, organize tools/parts, drain oil buckets, and maintain a safe workspace.
    • Assist techs/advisors with pulling cars forward, shuttling customers, or running quick errands.
    • Greet customers professionally and help with drop-off/pick-up.
  • QC Technician Duties:
    • Perform final inspections on completed repairs (check work against RO specs, test brakes/lights/alignment, road test if qualified).
    • Identify defects, incomplete work, or safety issues before vehicle release.
    • Document findings in Tekmetric (our shop software) and communicate with techs/advisors for fixes.
    • Help ensure high customer satisfaction by catching issues early.
  • General:
    • Work cooperatively with the team (techs, advisors, owner).
    • Follow all safety protocols (OSHA, MSDS for chemicals).
    • Be flexible—duties may vary based on daily needs in our high-car-count shop.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record (must be insurable).
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in a clean, organized workspace.
  • Basic knowledge of cars/repairs a plus (e.g., prior detailing, porter, or entry-level auto experience).
  • For QC side: Experience with inspections, tools (calipers, etc.), or quality checks preferred but not required—we'll train the right person!
  • Positive attitude, teamwork, and willingness to learn (opportunities to grow into tech roles).
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand/walk for long periods, and work in varying weather.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive hourly pay + bonuses for performance/quality.
  • Paid time off (after probation).
  • Opportunity for growth in a thriving shop.
