About JBS Auto Service

JBS Auto Service is an independent automotive repair shop in Simi Valley focused on quality repairs, honest service, strong diagnostics, and long-term customer relationships. We service and repair a wide range of vehicles, with a large portion of our workload consisting of light-duty trucks and diesel pickups.

Our shop specializes heavily in light-duty diesel pickup trucks, including Ford Power Stroke, Chevrolet/GMC Duramax, and Dodge/Ram Cummins trucks. About 80% of our workload is diesel pickups, but this position is not limited to diesel repair only. We are looking for a well-rounded, experienced automotive professional who can lead a team, diagnose accurately, manage workflow, and help technicians grow.

We are seeking a Working Shop Foreman / Lead Automotive Technician who can help guide the shop each day while still performing hands-on diagnostics and repairs.

Position Overview

This is a leadership position for an experienced technician who is ready to help manage the flow, quality, and productivity of the shop.

The right person will be a strong A-level technician with excellent diagnostic ability, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead other technicians in a professional and supportive way.

This is a working foreman position, meaning you will not only lead and support the team, but also perform diagnostics, inspections, repairs, quality control checks, and technical support as needed.

We are looking for someone who can help keep the shop moving, guide entry-level and apprentice technicians, support experienced technicians, communicate clearly with service advisors, and help maintain a high standard of quality throughout the shop.

Key Responsibilities

As the Working Shop Foreman / Lead Automotive Technician, you will:

  • Lead, support, and guide the technician team throughout the workday.
  • Help manage daily workflow, technician assignments, and shop productivity.
  • Assist with dispatching work based on technician skill level, vehicle needs, and shop priorities.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on mechanical, electrical, drivability, diesel, and general repair concerns.
  • Help technicians with diagnostic direction, testing procedures, repair strategies, and problem-solving.
  • Train, mentor, and guide entry-level technicians and apprentices.
  • Support technician growth through coaching, hands-on training, and clear expectations.
  • Perform quality control checks before vehicles are completed.
  • Help prevent comebacks through proper diagnostics, repair verification, and quality inspections.
  • Communicate clearly with service advisors regarding findings, repair recommendations, technician needs, and job status.
  • Monitor repair progress and help keep jobs moving efficiently.
  • Review digital vehicle inspections for accuracy, completeness, and professionalism.
  • Assist with difficult customer or vehicle situations when technical input is needed.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and productive shop environment.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, quality workmanship, and a positive shop culture.
  • Lead by example in attitude, work ethic, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Continue performing hands-on repair and diagnostic work as needed.

  • Minimum 15 years of professional automotive repair experience.
  • Strong A-level technician skill set.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, drivability, maintenance, and repair systems.
  • Experience using scan tools, diagnostic equipment, service information, and proper testing procedures.
  • Ability to lead, train, and support technicians at different skill levels.
  • Strong communication skills with technicians, advisors, management, and customers when needed.
  • Ability to manage workflow and keep jobs moving.
  • Good judgment when assigning work and helping technicians through difficult repairs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

ASE certifications are a plus. Diesel pickup experience, dealership experience, independent shop experience, electrical diagnostic training, drivability training, or previous foreman/lead technician experience are also a plus.
