Hours of Work:
Monday through Thursday (34 hours per week with flexible start times) or Tuesday through Friday, occasional weekends as needed

Job Summary:

This role provides initiative-driven internal post and technical support to multiple programs, the residents and mentors as it relates to the editing and post-production processes and deliverables, as needed by residents/staff and as directed by the Manager, Post-Production & Technical. Support includes serving as assistant editor for editor residents and as an online editor, assisting the CFC Post team, through to packaging and finishing stages.  This also includes aiding in the anticipatory maintenance of CFC’s post-production equipment, program media archives, and coordinating all post calendar communication for post department and residents.

  • Online/Finishing Editor

 

Post-Production

  • Responsible for communicating department’s post specifications and shoot deliverables to Director of Photography (DoPs), directors and editors in advance of shoots and in checking these specifications are met upon delivery. Any issues or changes are communicated to Manager, Post-Production & Technical
  • Proactively communicate and engage with creative teams’ needs, questions and requests as they pertain to post and in support of the Manager, Post-Production & Technical
  • Creatively and thoroughly problem-solving issues for the post team and residents as they arise
  • Coordinating schedule information, deliveries and updates with post houses and residents. This includes communicating session needs for residents and CFC post updates
  • Assisting with building post schedule with Manager, Post-Production & Technical and setting up calendar invites. Providing communication and assistance to residents, mentors and staff on post schedules, foreseeing issues in advance and ensuring understanding across team's and departments
  • A reliable team member in ensuring the post process at the CFC runs smoothly, effectively and professionally for our staff, residents and post partners
  • Responsible in updating department manuals and in support of maintaining records of duties with the Manager, Post-Production & Technical
  • When the need arises, dependable source of CFC and post knowledge, allowing for future training of others in areas related to post-production 


Assistant Editor / DMT

  • Preparing drives, DMT kit, edit suite computers, clearing and backing up data for editors, CFC residents and programs media storage
  • Supporting programs and post with DMT services, media ingestion/transcoding, offloading footage, camera card rotations and delivering logs with checksum reports to the Manager, Post-Production & Technical
  • Ensuring footage is delivered safely to the CFC’s post-production department
  • Working with Manager, Post-Production & Technical  to review all footage for quality control including both technical and human error
  • Supporting editors as an assistant editor, ensuring projects for the editors are prepared and delivered in line with the post schedule and CFC standards, in both Adobe Premiere Pro and AVID Media Composer with script sync. Available and committed to supporting editors and residents with troubleshooting technical issues and locating missing files during the post-production process
  • Provide internal post and technical support to multiple programs and their participants as it relates to editing and post-production
  • Technical support and regular edit system maintenance, including media backup protocols and Audio/Visual set-ups required for program workshops
  • General internal editing and assembling duties as needed, including cutting together sizzle reels, promos etc.
  • Cataloguing, digitizing and inventory of old physical & digital media 

Online/Finishing Editor

  • Supporting Post Manager and CFC post turnover tasks as an online editor, reviewing deliverables from the editor and performing conforms to online in DaVinci Resolve and ProTools for colour and sound project deliveries. Preparing VFX plates for delivery to VFX artists and performing simple online fixes as needed
  • Ensuring deliveries and turnovers are correct and able to trouble shoot issues for post houses and theatres individually and with the Manager, Post-Production & Technical
  • Running ADR sessions for CFC post and residents while ensuring sound quality standards are met for CFC and post sound partners
  • Attending colour/mixes as a CFC representative as needed.
  • Designing titles with filmmakers and building credits in photoshop and illustrator while adhering to the CFC's professional standards & templates
  • Assisting in delivery of finals and other CFC assets to theatres
  • Uploading CFC and resident content to YouTube and Vimeo channels, creating captions
  • Uploading and sharing CFC program exercises and finals with residents when needed

  • An in-depth understanding of the production to post to delivery pipelines, including sufficient knowledge in handling and storing media, both offline and online editing and standard post deliveries
  • Understanding of different camera and sound recording formats, codecs, aspect ratios and in syncing and creating editor proxies
  • Familiar with assistant editing tools and standard practices such as organizing bins, inputting metadata, using markers and using AVID’s script sync
  • Familiar with online editing/finishing tools and standard practices such as conforming to online, vfx plates and deliveries, working with captions, credits, finishing video and audio formats and preparation for DCPs

Assets:

  • Proficient in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, Media Composer, Photoshop, Illustrator, Shot Put Pro, Frame IO, YouTube, Vimeo, Google Calendar, Outlook, Mac OS and Windows operating systems
  • Pro Tools After Effects and Fusion knowledge is a plus
