Job description

We are looking for a motivated Project Engineer with a strong foundation in construction to support our Project Management and Field Operations teams as we continue to grow.

The Role

As a Project Engineer, you will be the bridge between the office and the field. You will work closely with our Owner, Project Managers, and Lead Foremen to ensure that every project—from historic renovations to large-scale commercial developments—is executed with precision. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with 2+ years of experience to take the next step in their career within a stable, respected, and safety-conscious company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Documentation: Manage and process submittals, RFIs (Request for Information), and change orders to keep projects moving forward.
  • Estimating Support: Assist the Project Manager with quantity take-offs, material pricing, and bid preparation for upcoming masonry and concrete projects.
  • Scheduling: Coordinate with suppliers and equipment haulers to ensure materials and machinery (forklifts, scaffolding, etc.) arrive on-site exactly when needed.
  • Field Liaison: Conduct site visits to track progress, ensure adherence to blueprints/specs, and assist the Lead Foreman in resolving technical challenges.
  • Safety & Compliance: Support the enforcement of OSHA standards and our internal safety programs to maintain our A+ reputation.
  • Quality Control: Perform inspections to ensure all masonry work meets Holman’s rigorous standards for "beautiful workmanship."

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of experience in the construction industry (Masonry or Concrete experience is a significant plus).
  • Education: Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical specifications. Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and a "team-first" attitude. You must be comfortable speaking with general contractors, homeowners, and field crews.
  • Requirements: A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to project sites within a 90-mile radius of Farmville.

Why Join the Holman Team?

  • Family Culture: We are a "close-knit" group where many employees have been with us for over 15 years.
  • Stability: A consistent pipeline of diverse projects ranging from private estates to university residence halls.
  • Career Growth: We invest in our people. You will receive mentorship from industry veterans who have been in the business for 30+ years.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Paid Holidays (5 days) and 1 week of Vacation.
  • 401K Program with company contribution (after 1 year of service).
  • A supportive environment where your voice is heard and your hard work is recognized.
