Job description

Title: Art Teacher SY26/27                                Location:  District Wide 

Employment Type:  Full Time                             Work Days: 10-month position

FLSA:  Non-Exempt                                                    Reports to: Building Principal                                              

Job Summary:

The K-5 Art Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive visual arts program that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression. The teacher will guide students in developing technical skills, aesthetic appreciation, and the ability to evaluate and create art while supporting their academic and social growth.

Education, Certification, and Licensure:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Art endorsement
  • Bachelor's degree in Art education or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of art instruction, techniques, and art history
  • Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in art education preferred
  • Experience teaching elementary students strongly preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing standards-based art curriculum
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with IEPs and English learners
  • Experience integrating technology and digital tools into art instruction preferred
  • Experience organizing student art shows, exhibitions, or community-based projects
  • Student teaching or internship experience in art education will be considered for entry-level candidates

Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, design, crafts, lettering, art history, and three-dimensional art
  • Develop students' aesthetic understanding and ability to make informed artistic judgments
  • Plan and implement a balanced instructional program including demonstration, guided practice, and independent work
  • Provide differentiated instruction through individual and small group support
  • Demonstrate artistic techniques using appropriate instructional tools and materials
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom, including proper care and use of art supplies and equipment
  • Organize storage areas and manage inventory of materials and tools
  • Plan and display student artwork through exhibits and school/community showcases
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes creativity, respect, and collaboration
  • Support students' social and emotional development through positive interactions

  • Strong foundation in visual arts, including drawing, painting, design, and three-dimensional art
  • Ability to integrate creativity, innovation, and critical thinking into instruction
  • Proficiency in a variety of art media, tools, and techniques
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including gifted learners and students requiring additional support
  • Strong classroom management skills that foster a positive and productive learning environment
  • Ability to organize and manage materials, tools, and equipment effectively
  • Skilled in creating engaging visual displays and student exhibitions
  • Ability to incorporate cross-curricular connections and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Strong collaboration skills with staff, administration, and the school community
  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement
  • Ability to integrate technology into art instruction where appropriate

Terms of Employment:


Salary Range:


$50,727 - $64,233  Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms w/10yr credit cap.
