Student Museum Assistant I On-Campus FWS

Position Details

Department Bio - The Luther W. Brady Art Gallery is located in the Corcoran Flagg Building and shows exhibitions related to the GW Collection.

Position Specific Summary - Student will greet visitors to gallery, answer questions, direct each visit to the Gallery and be the public face of the Gallery. They will ensure safe viewing of the artwork and make sure the Gallery is stocked with brochures, books, etc. Some help with small installation projects, tours and events, or social media and blog posts may be required as needed. The person in this position MUST be able to work Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.

Standard Position Description - The student will assist with administrative and logistical operations in a Museum or Gallery. Tasks may include: preparation of exhibit installations, assisting with preliminary research for exhibitions, assist in editing and formatting documents, general maintenance of exhibit space, welcoming guest and explaining exhibits, and office administrative functions. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Professional Outcomes - Communication, Teamwork, Professionalism

Required Qualifications - This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications - We are searching for someone who is outgoing and able to speak with many different groups of people. They must be able to work Wednesday and/or Thursday afternoons (1-5 pm). Interest in art and museums a plus.
