Position: Full Time Apprentice Plumber Tier 1

Department: Construction

Reports to: Plumbing ย Supervisor

Employment Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Position Summaryย 

Entry-level opportunity responsible for supporting the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures. This role helps ensure the safe operation and maintenance of plumbing systems across our customer base. ย Primary focus would be in hydronic heat systems and boiler installations.


Essential Functions

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:


Under direct supervision from a Master or Journeyman Plumber, follows instructions and demonstrates increased competencies with the following:ย 

  • Assemble, install, maintain and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage and gas systems ย ย ย ย ย according to specification and plumbing codes.
  • Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
  • Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including waters heaters, waters softeners, ย ย ย ย ย residential plumbing fixtures etc.
  • Install/repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water usage.
  • Assemble, install, maintain hydronic heating systems.
  • Assemble, install, maintain boiler systems

Other Responsibilities

  • Receive, prioritize, and complete daily work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure job readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Work with supervisors to ensure project completion has met or exceeded customer expectations, including but not limited to communicating clearly and professionally with site supervisors. Confirming satisfaction with results and addressing concerns. Representing the company positively and uphold worksite professionalism.ย 
  • Perform preventive maintenance on hand tools and plumbing related equipment to ensure longevity and reliability.
  • Adhere to all company policies, industry regulations, and safety procedures, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Provide support across other departments as needed during staff shortages, employee absences, or when assisting with ย ย ย ย ย tasks related to light construction or general facilities maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Requirements

  • Maintain a valid Massachusetts Apprentice Plumber license.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to drive a company truck or van.
  • Entry level experience with plumbing repairs, maintenance and installation technique including exposure to basic plumbing tasks, such as fixing leaks, clearing clogs, replacing fixtures (e.g., faucets or toilets), and assisting in the installation of piping systems under supervision.
  • Entry level knowledge of plumbing codes as defined by familiarity with code requirements for fixture spacing, pipe sizing, venting, and backflow prevention. Understands the basic purpose and importance of local, state, and national plumbing codes and how they relate to safe installations.ย 
  • Entry level ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material including but not limited to recognizing symbols and abbreviations commonly used in plumbing plans. Can follow simple layout diagrams to ย ย ย ย ย assist in routing pipes or locating fixtures.ย 
  • Able to read and follow safety instructions, manufacturer specs, and installation guides.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations including but not limited to measuring pipe length and calculating cuts, understanding slope and grade (e.g., 1/4 inch per foot for drainage). Performing basic arithmetic and conversions (feet to inches, gallons per minute, PSI).
  • Novice understanding and ability to diagnose and resolve problems, such as learning how to recognize problems associated with low water pressure, leaks and slow drains.
  • Experience with using hand and power tools; pipe bender, propane torch.
  • Experience with maintaining a safe work environment including following OSHA guidelines and work specific safety protocols.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.
  • Recognize and avoid common plumbing hazards (e.g., hot surfaces, pressurized systems, confined spaces).
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas to reduce tripping and equipment hazards.ย 
  • Safely handle tools, materials, and hazardous substances (e.g., soldering materials, adhesives, solvents).
