Job description

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an entry level Geologist to join our Environmental Services team in Mt. Laurel, NJ! This position offers hands-on experience in hydrogeologic investigations, applied geophysics, groundwater resource evaluation, and environmental site characterization. The selected candidate will support projects involving groundwater supply development, aquifer testing, geophysical surveys (GPR, EM, resistivity, MASW), subsurface investigations, and regulatory environmental compliance. This role provides a strong technical foundation for individuals pursuing professional licensure (GIT/PG) and long-term careers in hydrogeology, geophysics, and environmental consulting. The position includes a mix of fieldwork and office-based data interpretation and report preparation.

This position offers advancement opportunities toward Project Geologist and Project Manager roles, with increasing technical responsibility and client interaction. Responsibilities
  • Support hydrogeologic investigations including aquifer testing, groundwater level monitoring, and well installation oversight.
  • Assist in performing and interpreting geophysical surveys including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), electromagnetic (EM) surveys, resistivity profiling, and seismic methods (as applicable).
  • Log soil and bedrock borings and evaluate lithologic and structural conditions.
  • Conduct fracture trace analysis and support groundwater supply evaluations.
  • Collect and preserve soil, groundwater, and soil vapor samples in accordance with regulatory protocols.
  • Prepare detailed field logs, boring logs, and technical memoranda.
  • Assist in preparation of hydrogeologic reports, remedial investigation reports, and regulatory submittals.
  • Coordinate with drillers, laboratories, and subcontractors during field investigations.
  • Operate and maintain geophysical and hydrogeologic field instrumentation.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, GIS, and data processing software to support mapping and interpretation efforts.
  • Participate in safety planning and adhere to project-specific Health & Safety Plans.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Engineering Geology.
  • Coursework in hydrogeology, geophysics, structural geology, or environmental geology preferred.
  • 0 to 3 years relevant experience.
  • Strong interest in pursuing Professional Geologist (PG) licensure.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time, including driving in the local area as well as out of town overnight travel on occasion monthly.
  • Supplementary certification or accreditation for asbestos inspection, lead-based paint or mold survey is a plus.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction a plus.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interaction.
