Job description

Position Overview

Tonix Pharmaceuticals seeks an enthusiastic, recent college graduate with aspirations of seeking advanced degrees in biomedical sciences.  Research fellows will gain confidence in conducting hands-on research and data analysis using a wide range of in vitro and in vivo techniques in BSL-2 and ABSL-2 laboratories.  This is a fast-paced, challenging position offers a access to a multitude of industry-respected mentoring principal investigators, as well as a competitive stipend.  This position will report to the Director of Immunology and will be based at the Tonix Research and Development Center in Frederick, Maryland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments under supervision using in vitro techniques and procedures as well as in vivo studies using rodent and/or non-rodent animal models.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and research records.
  • Assist with protocol development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare figures, summaries, and written reports of research findings.
  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and training activities.
  • Support manuscript preparation, abstracts, and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, ethical, and safety guidelines.

Developmental Goals:

  • Develop technical, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Gain exposure and proficiency in a wide range of in vitro research disciplines, including virology, immunology, protein engineering, cell and molecular biology, and histotechnology.
  • Gain exposure and proficiency in a variety of in vivo disciplines, including laboratory animal care and medicine, comparative pathology, and animal research technical procedures.
  • Become familiar with the pharmaceutical development pipeline from early research and development to investigational new drug enabling studies
  • Conduct at least one focused project which will include concept development, experiment execution, data collection, data analysis, and summary presentation / publication.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree within the last 2 years in a relevant scientific discipline such as biology, biomedical science, animal science, chemistry, engineering.
  • Strong demonstrated interest in biomedical research and advanced training.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic familiarity with relevant laboratory, data analysis, and computational techniques
  • Prior undergraduate or Postbac research experience involving animal studies is preferred.
  • Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment.
  • Standing, pipetting, microscope use, and computer-based work will be required.
