Job Description

The Financial Accounting Specialist is an entry-level role designed for recent graduates seeking to build a strong foundation in accounting and financial analysis. This position supports general ledger activities and assists with key accounting processes for specified areas of the Company's Retail business.

The Financial Accounting Specialist will work closely with the accounting team to help ensure accurate financial reporting, participate in the month-end close process, and contribute to ongoing improvements in processes and controls. This role provides exposure to a wide range of accounting functions and an opportunity to develop technical and analytical skills within a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and close the general ledger each month
  • Prepare and analyze journal entries and accruals
  • Prepare monthly income statements and expense reports
  • Prepare detailed monthly reconciliations and account analyses
  • Compile and analyze monthly financial results and prepare variance analyses as needed
  • Partner with operating departments on close activities and analyze key drivers of results
  • Support process improvements and the development of best practices
  • Create and update capitalization schedules for new leases
  • Review monthly rent payments and related charges
  • Support monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Follow and help maintain documented procedures in compliance with SOX and GAAP
  • Support the preparation of the monthly financial reporting package for external annual audits
  • Support the audit process by preparing requested schedules and working with external auditors
  • Assist with ad hoc assignments and special projects

Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of team, Results-oriented and proactive in resolving problems and overcoming obstacles, Strong analytical skills with close attention to detail, Strong written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA preferred; CPA exam candidates are a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, is preferred
  • Retail or wholesale experience preferred

  • Ability to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment
  • Able to clearly view and read information on a computer screen
  • Occasionally lift or move items up to 15 pounds
