Job description

Position Title
Pharmacy Tech Trainee - Entry Level - 16 week paid education programSouthlake CampusPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is an employment and training position designed to develop a pharmacy technician knowledge base and competency level while performing pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of a clinical pharmacist. Candidates may enter this role upon acceptance into the Pharmacy Technician Traineeship Program. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee may remain in this role for up to 6 months from hiring date to allow for program completion and onboarding into a pharmacy technician role, if hired on after successful completion of the traineeship program.
After education, training, and assessments, the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will perform functions essential to the operations of the pharmacy as outlined by the supervisor. Functions this position may assist with include but is not limited to, accurate medication order filling, compounding and record keeping, timely delivery of medications, preparation of medications using appropriate technique and equipment. Medications include, but are not limited to intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition, oral bulk/unit-dose or prepackaged medications, compounds, and investigational drugs.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains traineeship specific and organization wide competence through attendance at and timely participation in mandatory and other traineeship-related educational opportunities.
  • Performs assigned functions in a fiscally responsible manner and in accordance with organization and traineeship policies and procedures.
  • Complies with traineeship expectations and all organization policies, including adherence to attendance, traineeship curriculum, and success on competency evaluation.
  • Gains exposure and learns pharmacy technician duties under coaching and observation by a registered pharmacy technician or pharmacist.
  • Operates computer systems to accurately input medication orders and obtain necessary patient information.
  • Assists in maintaining pharmacy inventory and record keeping in accordance with state and federal law; reports medication errors on a continual basis.
  • Assures timely distribution of prescribed medications and stock items as needed.
  • Provides feedback and actively participates in continuous improvement of the traineeship program facilitating effective communication relative to these initiatives.
  • Utilizes effective listening and communication skills; maintains awareness of personal and team activities affecting the traineeship program.
  • Successfully completes national certification prior to traineeship program completion.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

Required Licensure and Certification

  • Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy
  • Eligible for Kansas Board of Pharmacy Registration (required upon start date or immediately after) upon Hire


Required Language Skills

  • Fluent English - ability to read, write, understand, and speak


Knowledge Requirements

  • Basic keyboarding and word processing ability.
