Job description

Business, Marketing & Product Manager

Longhorn Boring is a brand new student team at UT Austin competing in The Boring Company's Not-a-Boring Competition. We're designing and building a tunnel boring machine for this year's Mini Challenge, the entry level track for first year teams, and we're looking for someone to help run the business side of the team as we build it from the ground up.

Important: This is an unpaid position open exclusively to current/graduated UT Austin students. Longhorn Boring is UT Austin’s chapter team competing in an annual international engineering competition.

Role Mission

Build the financial, marketing, and operational foundation that gets our machine from UT Austin to competition, and help tell our story to sponsors, industry partners, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and reach out to prospective sponsors, manufacturing partners, and donors
  • Develop sponsorship packages, proposals, presentations, and budgets
  • Manage purchasing, expense tracking, funding applications, and procurement coordination
  • Coordinate competition registration, travel, scheduling, and event logistics
  • Lead recruiting, information sessions, member onboarding, and internal communications
  • Build and manage the team's presence on LinkedIn and Instagram, including content calendars and posting schedules
  • Create graphics, written content, and updates that highlight our progress and technical milestones
  • Translate engineering needs into clear funding, material, and equipment requests

Who We're Looking For

Must be currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD, or a UT Austin alum. Relevant majors include Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Communications, Advertising, or any related field. No prior experience required, just strong communication skills and a willingness to take ownership.

What You'll Get

Real experience in sponsorship, budgeting, marketing, and event operations, working directly with a technical engineering team on a genuinely hard problem. A founding role on a brand new UT Austin team, with the chance to shape how we operate from day one.
