Job Summary
Assist with the daily operations of the Mechanical Engineering Capstone Lab/Maker Space, including the safe operation, maintenance, and care of equipment and tools. Support students, faculty, and staff by helping maintain an organized, productive, and collaborative maker environment.
Responsibilities
ME Capstone Lab/Maker Space: will be staffed weekdays from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Staff members will be responsible for the following:
  • Monitor lab occupancy and ensure compliance with all safety procedures, policies, and operating protocols.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Clean, inspect, and perform routine maintenance on Maker Space equipment and tools.
  • Train and assist students in the safe and proper use of lab equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Provide support and guidance to students working on capstone and other engineering projects.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or maintenance needs to lab management.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Lab Equipment includes:
  • FDM & Resin 3D Printers
  • Laser Cutting Equipment
  • Machine Shop Equipment
  • Hand Tools and Power Tools
  • Various Prototyping, Fabrication, and Manufacturing Tools

Minimum Qualifications
This position requires the ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, handle hazardous materials in accordance with established safety protocols, and work in environments with exposure to loud noise. Duties may also require prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, and reach overhead.
This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training provided.
Preferences
Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated experience or interest in:
  • Welding and metal fabrication
  • Machining and machine shop operations
  • 3D printing and additive manufacturing
  • Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and general manufacturing equipment
  • Working in laboratory, workshop, or maker space environments

This position is intended to provide continuity and support for the ME Capstone Lab/Maker Space. Preference may be given to candidates who are interested in a multi-year commitment and can maintain consistent availability throughout the academic year.
