  • Can you climb and/or crawl into large fuel tanks, with an interest in staying a while to inspect the structure?

Job Summary

As a Structural Engineer I (aka Engineer-In-Training or EIT), the position assists in the preparation of engineering and design documents under direct supervision. Applies basic knowledge of engineering and construction materials related to engineering evaluation and design in collaboration with other engineers or project managers. Works with engineering teams to assist in the evaluation or design of various project aspects.


Essential Job Functions

  • Performs engineering duties as assigned, supervised and approved by the department manager, lead engineer and/or project manager, applying standard techniques and procedures.
  • Assists lead engineers in the production of engineering plans, written technical specifications, engineering calculations, and cost estimates commensurate with technical abilities. Checks and reviews individual assignments and develops designs to maintain technical quality and accuracy of work.
  • Pursues obtaining technical certifications related to company and department business lines, as discussed with supervisor.
  • Under direct supervision and guidance, performs project site visits and inspections for investigation and to record existing conditions, including periodic travel to project locations, domestic and international.
  • Develops and maintains technical capabilities under direct supervision, learning and staying current with industry codes and standards.
  • Develops company spreadsheets and computer models under direct supervision.
  • Produces computer-aided design (CAD) drawings while developing plan documents applying standard techniques and procedures. Apply company CAD standards.
  • Collaborates with and provides direction to CAD drafters when developing design documents.
  • Communicates and coordinates directly with subcontract and vendor personnel.
  • Assists with preparing permit applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum.
  • 0-4 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Passed or working towards passing the Engineer in Training (EIT) Exam.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. military base access through completion of a comprehensive background check.
  • Willing and able to independently travel periodically to project locations, domestic and internationally.
  • Working towards obtaining professional licensure.


Physical Requirements

  • Work predominantly in an office environment. Occasional outside work in various conditions.
  • See, hear and communicate with others in varying conditions using various methods.
  • Travel independently for varying periods, both domestic and international.
  • Lift or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Sit or stand for sustained period.
  • Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Walk, stand, crouch on uneven surfaces.
